I really hope they don't start taking away other areas of .Mac to force people to switch over to MobileMe. I also use this feature a lot as does my GF for her work and research

There is no "forcing people to switch." There is no switching. Your .Mac will become MobileMe in July.

You don't have any choice about switching to MobileMe. As soon as it goes live, your .Mac account will be automatically changed to MobileMe.

You can still keep your @mac.com email addresses if you wish.

OK, so... what's the problem? Will MobileMe sync online bookmarks? i don't get what the problem is if it will- I would assume that Apple would not delete this feature for now reason, as they are syncing everything else...

the article is rather vague and the wording seems to say that there is no comparable feature under mobile me, but hopefully thats just a misunderstanding.

I THINK it's like this:

* With MobileMe you WILL have your bookmarks synched between YOUR computers (Safari-only? not sure), as well as your iPhone and/or iPod Touch.

* What you will NOT have any longer is a web page you can go to on OTHER peoples' computers and access all your bookmarks. (Seems like a simple feature to keep--even just read-only would be useful--so it's a shame to lose it.)

Right. People who use bookmarks frequently on other people's computers will have to find some alternative - thankfully, there are plenty, although none are particularly elegant.

Off the top of my head, online bookmarks (del.icio.us maybe?), exporting bookmarks into an HTML file onto your iDisk, pooling all your bookmarks into a massive Note.

pooling all your bookmarks into a massive Note.

That has to be the best thing I have read all day.. and just before I was about to post that idea I saw your post, Would be a very good way to do it provided you dont have 100+ bookmarks.. may not be as convenient as the latter but would certainly get the job done!

If they discontinue this feature altogether then it's completely absurd. I freelance all over the city, using different machines all the time, and I use this feature every day.

What a crock. Go crapple!

Yeah, I love this feature too, and it's sad it's discontinued ...
Has everyone sent an email to the .Mac team to reconsider it ? I did !

I should have been more specific about that concerning the .Mac email and not as a whole since all of us .Mac subscribers got the same emails…However as a family pack owner I'm happy for the extra storage space for my photos :D
