Tech Specs (http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html) state iPhone 3G will work on a Mac with USB 2.0 runing OSX 10.4.10.

My aging G4 (will eventually upgrade Mac) running Tiger is only USB 1.1 so will iPhone 3G work very slowly or not at all?

I would think that it would still work, why would it be any different from the last iPhone?

It'll work - just that movies will take forever to transfer over. Music and photos, won't be that slow because of the file size.

Just get a cheap USB 2.0 PCI card, that'll solve your problem. :)

I use a 5G iPod with a G4, it takes several hours to transfer 8GB. But it works!

Be smarter than me and take Tastannin's advice to get a USB 2.0 PCI card. Maybe $20?

I am very sure that the iPhone 3G will not work on USB 1.1 because all of the current generation iPods do not work unless you are using a USB 2.0 port. Also, if I'm correct the 1st generation iPhone also requires an USB 2.0 port. Could someone with an iPhone please confirm this?

Current iPods work on USB 1.1, just slowly. My 3G nano charges fine from my old iMac G4 with USB1.1 ports.

USB 2.0 is no different from USB 1.1. If something works with USB 2, it'll work with USB 1, just more slowly. While this may be an issue for streaming stuff (hence why most camcorders use firewire and not USB) there's nothing time-sensitive with the iPhone, so USB 1 should (slowly) work.

Doubtful, but hey, Apple can't cater to everyone. I'd rather have them be able to make cool new products than be limited by the people that refuse to upgrade.

I just remember when I got my iPod touch and I still had my old (well my dad gave it to me after he got a MBP) PowerBook G3. Every time I would try to connect it to that, it iTunes told me that it could not connect to it because it required USB 2.0. So, between by birthday and Christmas, I had to sync my iPod touch with my dad's MacBook Pro. The iPod touch is very similar to the iPhone so I thought it would require USB 2.0 as well.

Cool products great - I'm all for that. Only work with newer Mac hardware that's fine too - it's called progess. I don't refuse to upgrade but if it aint broke...

Mixed feelings in the other responses though, but a USB2.0 PCI card would be a good solution!

Just found original iPhone Tech Specs (http://support.apple.com/specs/iphone/iPhone.html) which also says USB 2.0.

If I go with a iPhone 3G and it don't work then I'll do the PCI card option.

I hate that the iPhone doesn't work with firewire. It should be fine with USB no matter what kind though.

I love all the "it will work"s...

Just tried connecting my iPhone 3G to the PowerMac G4 I just got off ebay and in iTunes I consistently see

iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "Don's iPhone" because an unknown error occurred (0xE0000001)

The Image Capture utility does work, however. It pops up every time and offers to copy all my pictures off the phone. Weeee!
