So has anyone camped out at Lenox before? Im only in ATL for the summer, so I have no clue. I plan on trying to get a white one (if they say they have em the day before) and getting there around 4am.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

Along the same lines (ha!) as previous posts from last year - if you've done a pre-order, do you have to wait in the long line, or is there a separate one for the pre-orders? How does that protocol work? I've only ever done the long arduous line in the past.

I'm wondering the same thing. I didn't pre-order my 3G and had to wait in a ridiculous line. I'm also hoping that they have enough stock to meet the number of pre-orders the store received.

I wish there were more details and something more reassuring than an email stating that my phone will be available at 7am...

I too am wondering about this. I reserved my 16 GB at Lenox. I have NO idea what time I should get to the store. It seems like most people who camp out didn't pre-order, but for those of us who did pre-order, what time should we get to the store to avoid waiting in a long line?

Look at it this way....anybody who could make a reservation, probably did. So I'd expect a lot of people with reservations. However, hopefully, not everyone will try to get it all in the morning, and it will be spaced apart.

But, I have a reservation, and I will get there at 7AM. If the line is too long, I will come back in the afternoon. I don't think the main doors will open before 7 anyway (for Lenox mall).

Mall doors open at 6AM (Apple 7AM) and there will be 2 distinctly marked line up points.

Which store do you think is most likely to have the best supply vs. crowd ratio for walk-ups? I get the feeling Lenox will have a good supply, but it will also be the most popular one. I am willing to go to any of the stores to get this thing.

I will be getting mine from Perimeter. I preordered mine at 6am on the preorder day so I am set! I am planning on getting there at about 5am. I'm gonna wait 1 hour outside by the closest door, next to Bloomingdales, and then go in when the unlock the doors for 1 more hour. I'd rather get there a couple hours early instead of on time and have to wait for a few hours. LOL

I went by the Lenox store today. The guy I talked to said they would have separate lines for reservations/no reservations. He didn't know when the mall would be open, but "some" doors would be open before 7. He suggested calling the mall because their security will be the ones opening the doors, which I tried to do but the mgmt office closed at 5. The number is (404) 233-6767 if anyone else wants to try tomorrow.

Near Bloomingdales, back of the mall (from 285). I believe it's the closest to the Apple store and the one I always use. The only caveat is it's a small and almost service type entrance so does it get opened at the same time as the larger entrances?

Jun 23, 2010, 08:14 AM
Yes, the Georgia Backyard entrance is the best way to get into the mall. They do open the doors the same time as the larger ones as well. I've gone to that entrance for the last three years and it works great. I've also pre ordered mine as well but I'm going to get there between 4:30 and 5:00AM. I'd think the security would open at 5 to get everyone in line. Don't want to get caught up in the AT&T server crash that has happened for the last three years on launch day.

I have a reservation at Perimeter ... will be there hopefully by 5 a.m. I usually go in the entrance by Maggiano's/Macy's. I'll keep watching this thread today. If someone gets confirmation from the mall on which entrance to line up at, please post. Otherwise, I'll see you guys by the Bloomingdale's entrance.

I spoke to the Apple Store and multiple times to Lenox Security. Apparently, Apple will start letting people in at 6:30 and Lenox will open some of their doors at 6:00 for people to start lining up in front of the store. I personally plan to be out there around 1am (I don't have a pre-order). Anyone want to join me?

This will be my 5th product launch and I've been to them at both Lenox and Perimeter. Who knows what tomorrow may bring, but Perimeter usually has a smaller crowd than Lenox. For the iPad, the "MALL ENTRANCE" doors between Macy's and Nordstrom across from the parking garage were open at 5:45 AM. The front entrance doors (Ashford Dunwoody side) between Maggiano's and Macy's were locked.

I plan to be there at 5:30/5:45 tomorrow morning. Whee! Can't wait!

I was looking through the beginnings of this thread to see people's experiences the last few years and came across this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_bJK5GwrXM). The guys in it were turned away at 6:45 at the main door, but there were people already in line when they got in at 7.

I called Lenox and was told they were opening at 7 like normal, but obviously (from the video) the doors are open before then for employees. I am going to go to the door closest to the Apple Store - the Lenox Road entrance, first door on the top level of the parking deck. When I got my 3G, I was still in line when the mall closed and that was the door they left open for us. Even if they won't let me in before 7, I'll be close by as soon as the doors open.

So, here's the deal everyone. Apparently some guys tried to start camping out LAST NIGHT. Mall Security kicked them out. Apple store people suggest getting there as early as possible specially if you don't have a pre-order. This is Lenox btw.

As for the best entrance, the Abercombie and Finch entrance is the ONLY one they will be opening for the store at 6:00am

Also, the first thing every person at the apple store has told me when I say that I don't have a pre-order is "you might not get the model you want". This could be a hint at them running out of Black iPhone 4's and having White ones, but thats just me looking for unicorns.

Well, it looks like it is going to be a tossup between the 16gb and 32gb black models, it doesnt really matter for me b/c I am planning to get one of each eventually. I was planning to pick up a 16gb for my wife later on when they are more readily available, but if I'm lucky enough to get a phone tomorrow, either model will do.

Question...

If I don't want to wait in line tomorrow for the iPhone 4, how long until I can casually walk into an Apple or AT&T store and just buy one?

Will they have more phones on Friday, Saturday...

Is waiting in line tomorrow just for people who want the phone first, or will it be sold out for days/weeks if you don't get it tomorrow?

Thanks in advance

AT&T stores are not allowing walk-in purchases until the 29th, not sure about the Apple Stores or any of the other vendors.

I'm still sporting the original iPhone, so I missed the opening day festivities for the 3G and 3GS.

It's good you know two because there are a million entrances into that mall. I think your parking deck guess is right though (top floor - A&F is upstairs). I'm not sure what the name of the parking deck is, but if you're looking at the mall from the front (from Peachtree), it's on the left side behind Macy's. I believe it's also where they do the Pink Pig thing around the holidays every year.

If you don't find your way, I wouldn't be too worried. Just follow the zombified crowd and you'll find your way in...

Good luck everyone - I'll be at Perimeter fulfilling my reservation! It's about time to get rid of this 3G POS.

The Lenox entrance in question is the one where the Pink Pig is set up every year. To get to the top level of the Lenox Road deck, make a left as you enter the mall lot from Lenox Road (the red light at Pier One and the AT&T store) - the ramp up to the top level is just down on the right. Obviously I've spent waaaay too much time at Lenox to know that. http://g.media.macrumorslive.com/f/smilies/wink.gif

Good luck everyone! I hear there's already 20-25 folks in line outside Northpoint...

I agree. I actually fired up the Starbucks app today on my 3G to see what time the mall one opened, but of course it crashed and then the app proceeded to restart my phone. Clearly a sign it's ready for tomorrow morning. Your 2nd best Starbucks bet is probably the one next to the theater, but I don't think it opens THAT early. Another option might be the McDonald's at Ashford Dunwoody and Perimeter Center W.

Just spoke to some of the guys at the container store parking lot and they said that security won't let them park on the mall premises. However, on the opposite side there were a couple people next to the valet stand. This is not organized like what I'm hearing over at north point so it may just be a mad dash once the mall doors open.

I'm in line right now and we have organized a line at Perimeter mall. Was looking like a mad dash was possible but we have a citizens line and we've taken down names in order of who got here when. Seems pretty promising. There are rumors that only black iPhones will be available, and no more than 40-70 units. T-minus 2 hours until we can simply camp *on* Perimeter premises. This could have been handled better but I'm fairly certain I'll be walking away with an iPhone 4 today.

Everyone is next to the barnes and noble parking lot. According to security, only the entrance between dillards and bloomingdales will be open at 6, lines start at 5.

is there any idea how many people in the line are pre order and how ma are walkins?

Line here at perimeter is about 80 deep. Security made us line up across the street and allow us to line up at the entrance starting 5.

Is that 80 number for the first come first served line, reserved or both?

Pretty similar, and probably a similar number of folks. Not sure you could call the front end a "line," so a couple of Dunwoody's finest are up there. Paul Blart, Mall Cop seems to be having fun ordering folks around, trying to decide whether he wants the line to the right, middle, or left of the door. One dude passed out in all the excitement. It was this or sleep and I'm beginning to think I made a poor decision.

You can't really tell while outside - it's a jumbled mess. The split line forms inside.

Complete utter chaos here at perimeter. I was number 50 in the previous line but once it got close to 5, when we could get to the mall entrance, everyone was running across the parking lot. Now its a semi mob scene in front of the door. 10 min left, cops are here, probably over 300 people here now. It was just around a 100 until 5am.

Reminds me of Walmart on Black Friday. They should have just left the mall open and let people line up in front of the store itself with ropes to keep anybody from cutting in line.

So if you're wondering what happened at Lenox there were two lines off mall property waiting unitl 530a. A security guy decided one of them was the official line but the other one was closer to the door. So when the official line was escorted to the door, they saw all of us forming lines with other security guys. And security boss made us all move to the back of the line.

It's the one on the right side of the Apple store if your facing it. Probably 300-400 people in the reserved line and another 500 in the non-reserve

Here at Perimeter. In the non-reserved line in a little behind the Lucky Brand Jeans store. An Apple Store employee just came out to let us know they will be taking a sampling up at the front of the line of what phones people plan to purchase so that they can estimate how much inventory they have in stock. They will let us know if inventory runs very low so that we do not waste our time. They reminded us that the store will be opening tomorrow morning at 8am.

I'm thinking of jumping out of line and returning next week.

Given multiple entrances at many malls, I am surprised they (Either Apple or the mall) does not post signage on all entrances the night before giving advice on where to wait etc. In order to avoid the dual-line problem. There were only a dozen or so people at the Macy's entrance to Perimeter. I was shocked, I thought it would be at least 10x's that amount. Until they let us in. Of course there were hundreds already inside and in line.

I think I will wait to watch the doors open, give it about 30minutes, then leave. I can return some other day.

The apple rep is walking around handing out rate plan phamplets. We just asked how many they had on hand and they said that once the store opens, they will count the number of phones, then count off the line and let us know if we'll be getting one today or not. If you're planning on trying perimeter and not already in line, you may be out of luck unless they have 1,000 units for sale today. I'll provide and update later, hopefully I'm safe at around #60 in the non-reserve line.

They also announced that the white iphone 4 will not be coming out within the next 30 days so you can't exchange for one later.

I thought the process would be smoother if people didn't have to activate in-store provided that Apple reviewed their AT&T status.

Some of us weren't so lucky!

Yeah, I ordered two last Tuesday early (before the crash). The wonderful thing is that AT&T decided to charge my card 15 times! My CC company then decided that this was no good, and cancelled all of them (including the two I wanted ). I spent a good number of hours on the phone with my CC company, AT&T, Apple, and anyone else who wanted to mess up an order and finally got it to go on Monday night. Great stuff.

If only those 15 orders stayed, you'd see 13 of them on eBay today...

Holy crap. Though that can't be a real estimate, right? I'm sure they don't have that many phones in the store. Glad I reserved mine; I'm headin' out after work to pick mine up. Hopefully it won't be too long a wait by then for reserves. Last year I waited about 15 min after work for my 3GS.

I got to Mall of Georgia around 5:50am, and there were maybe 200 people already in line outside. At 6, they let us inside to form two lines outside the store. I was in the walk-in line because I got frustrated trying to pre-order (slow internet connection, plus website issues). After splitting the line there was about 100 in my line, 100 in the other. At 7am the lines were both much longer, and they started letting people into the store, about 10 or 15 at a time, and they decided to let in 1 walk-in for every 10 pre-orders. I watched the flow of people, and it averaged about 1 per minute, and the pre-order line was actually growing faster than it was depleting, while our walk-in line was a crawl, like 1 per 10 minutes. I want that phone, but I'm not wasting an entire day waiting in extremely slow lines.

The moral of the story (for the iPhone 5 launch)– buy online for delivery. Failing that, pre-order for pickup and be there at 5am, you'll be out at 7:30.

Long time lurker here, but finally got around to registering today.

My experience. I got to Lenox around 10:45am, hoping that a lot of the morning rush would have died down. Ha Ha. The line was about 2/3 of the way towards Bloomingdales. I waited for about 90 minutes and then had to leave. We moved up to the next mall entrance, about 1/2 way towards Macys. The Apple Store guys estimated about 3-4 hour wait from that point.

They did say that since I had checked in, my reserved phones would be there until close tonight. They said they are going to close the line at 9pm (store/mall closing time), but process everyone who is already in the line at that point. I plan on going back around 8ish to get back in line and wait it out.

Hey Newtype,

It stretches just past the entrance by abercrombie. It's taken an hour to go from about that point to the front of Tous, which is right next to abercrombie. So...line's frigging long. Gotta wonder why this is not moving faster. Very frustrating. :(

So, the line currently ends about where I was when I left this afternoon. It will be just like picking up from the same spot. Thanks!

9pm, over 4 hrs thus far. Perimeter mall is closing, there are still at least 60 people in front of me. I am in front of Yankee candle and the end of the lime is the same place it was when I joined. The apple employees still have a long night ahead.

Good luck! I was there today in the reserved line from 6:30am-2:30pm (yes, 8 hours). The manager this morning assured us that every single person with a reservation would receive an iPhone regardless of the mall's hours. They have a long night, for sure.

I don't know why Perimeter is taking/took so long...my brother was at North Point this morning at 5:30 and was out by 7:30 (also with a reservation).

Anyway, good luck to all of you still waiting...the journey is so worth it. The display is amazing.

So it's quarter to 10 and the reserve line at Lenox still stretches to abercrombie. At least I'm getting closer to the front. Btw, Lenox is sold out of bumpers and they don't know when they'll have more.

Wow. This was by far the most people I have ever seen for any Apple event at Lenox. I arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon with a reservation and walked out with my 32Gig at 8:30. Just a marathon. The only thing that make these days the least bit compelling are the folks you meet in line. By the look of it, the Apple Store will barely close down tonight as they will still be processing folks I saw well before nine till at least 2 am. And then the lines surely will begin again.

For those of you reading wondering whether it's worth the wait, there was massive line abandonment due to the slow pace. My guess is that everyone gets a phone tonight and they have a sizable number first thing tomorrow am. After that, it's going to be the long wait. And, for those who are asking, no bumpers, docks, or universal adapters available at Lenox. Best Buy at Lindbergh still had some nice cases, though.

Good luck and have fun. It's a sweet phone.

So any opinion on where the best chance to walk out with an iPhone would be in the Atlanta area?

I'm procrastinating between Lenox Square and Perimeter. (I've been hearing Perimeter has been slower than Lenox)

I'm making a 2 hour drive to Atlanta and I have to get one or death (maybe not that far):)! Where's my best chance at grabbing one of these suckers? (Personally a black 32 gb)

You're going to do that right now?! I don't even know if the people still waiting tonight are FCFSs or people w/ reservations. If it's FCFS, I feel like there's a chance they won't let you in considering these malls are technically closed.

I would think your best bet is to line up early for when these stores open tomorrow morning and they start selling off the phones that people reserved but didn't come pick up Thursday.

All this said, I don't know...Perimeter was really slow (like I said earlier, I spent 8 hours in line with a reservation). Lenox is probably the busiest though (being in the center of our fair city). Depending on where you're coming from, you may want to consider North Point as well.

It seems that Northpoint had the least people/moved the fastest.

Perimeter seems to have had a steady 5-6hr line for reserves, walk-ins were finished about 9:30 (no clue how many were turned away). I was in line from just before 5pm and walked out the store a little after 10pm. My 'genius' was a bit slow, but I didn't need anything but the iphone - I'll be doing everything else.

I'd guess that the line will be served sometime between midnight and 1am.

And all this for the wife since I got mine in the mail yesterday. It's her first iphone, so I don't even get the benefit perks of having waited in line for her since she doesn't know how much she will like it.

Ah, okay...that makes it a little more sane :)

Hopefully others can speak up...I only have one perspective from NP...my brother's. He had a reservation - was in around 5:30, and walked out of the store around 7:30. I don't know how the FCFSs people fared.

I would say that 2 hr wait is among the shortest I've read. Plenty of us with reservations waited 8 hrs+ at Perimeter today. As I was getting my phone from my Reservation line, someone getting hers simultaneously from the FCFS line said she had been there since 4:30a (so ~10hrs).

I just think there's just no telling...best of luck though!

I waited in line at Perimeter for 5.5 hours. That was pretty typical for the reserve line. The FCFS was really slow and they cut it off right around 8:00 and it finished at 9:30.

After waiting for 2 hours earlier today and then leaving, I went back around 7:45pm. I got done at about 11:30pm. There were about 50 people in line behind me. Everyone in line was getting one (reserved line).

The FCFS (non-reserve) was closed off around noon according to an Apple employee. That line finished about 15 minutes before I got in. Long day for everyone. Some employees had been there since 5am.

They are not sure when they are getting more bumpers in stock. It looked like they still had plenty of phones, though. It may be the best place to try for a walk-up, non-reserved sale tomorrow.

The yellowing seems to be a minor issue popping up here and there on phones. Apparently it might be nothing to worry about as it may just be some sort of compound drying. http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/24/iphone-4-screen-blotching-resolves-itself-as-bonding-agent-dries/ If it keeps up, I'd bring it back in (once all the madness dies down).

Ok, I was in reserve line @ 6:15am @ northpoint. When I got into the store @ 12ish, the nice apple employee was inputing my info and his computer said that I did not qualify for the full upgrade, which I most certainly did! After having two AT&T staffers (one manager @ apple and one on phone from customer service) try to fix the issue with my account for 45 mins., the end result was that they gave me a $200 credit on my AT&T bill (Great, my employer pays my bill ). So I did have to pay the $499 price. I was so shocked and so were the employees. They could clearly see on my account history that as of June 20, 2010, I qualified for standard upgrade. But somehow a system upgrade the night before changed it to November 21, 2010.

(I had my 3gs stolen over Memorial Day weekend and as a temp fix, I got a go phone and the AT&T people tied it to my existing account and removed my iphone unlimited data plan (idiots). They assured me that the temp go phone wouldn't affect my upgrade date and as of June 23, my AT&T account online was still showing that I was a 3gs customer with upgrade date of June 20.

Did anyone else have this sort of issue, with AT&T changing the upgrade date back for NO reason??

I was so shocked by the hiccup and annoyed that I really didn't play with my phone yesterday.:( But I hope to make that up this weekend.:)

My understanding was that a certain number of reservations were available for day one, then for day two... I'm not sure if the reservation system continued beyond that.

So do you think that I could go to North Point after work tonight and get one? I have ordered one online, but it ships on the 14th, and if I can pick one up in less than a few hours, I'll do that and cancel the online order.

Just got one this morning at Mall of GA. Got there 30 minutes before opening, there were 5 of us in line. By opening there were 15, even though a blue-shirt told us they had only 11 phones. I guess the extra people were hoping that some us first 11 had bad credit or something.

Anyway, Apple gets blind shipments every morning except Sunday, but the blue-shirts there said they don't think there will be any more iPhones in for a while.

Yeah, I stopped at Perimeter Friday night on the way home on a lark... About 40 people in line. I stood for a bit. One of the blue shirts came out offering water and letting people know that they only had black 32GB left, and those were only because of ones people who had reservations for the day before who didn't pick them up so they could sell them.

I ended up leaving. I only want a 16GB. No need for 32 when I have the iPad 64...

As far as I can tell by following this thread the past since Wednesday night and by visiting Lenox and Perimeter the past few days, I'm pretty sure there aren't any left at this point.

You may want to call the stores periodically - I actually got through without holding yesterday; the previous 2 times I called, the system told me "there are more the 8 calls ahead of you." Also, keep an eye on this thread. It's nice to have 4 Apple stores combined into one thread here, and I imagine someone will post when they find out that some phones are available again (much as I'll try to do the same with Bumpers).

North Point/Alpharetta also has its own thread here, http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=937807, so you may want to subscribe to that also - it's less frequently updated, but just in case.

And to think I have to drive (on a good day) 30 minutes to get to Lenox, which involved going through I-20 to midtown, then I-75.. Cant spell either of those without road work and accidents on a daily basis.

Not to mention Lenox is a Zoo anyways.

THERE WAS NO LINES!

Go go go!!!!!Thank you, my friend got rejected trying to do an early upgrade at his AT&T so I'm trying to find him an alternative.

Perimeter was out of them around 2:30 (?) when I stopped by. They didn't know (or wouldn't say) when they were getting more. I also called Northlake earlier and they, too, were out. Then they hung up on me (I don't blame them--I bet it's been a hell of a day.)

Someone PM me if you find a store with any phones!
Thx,

Jeff

For what it is worth --

AT&T store on Lenox Rd didn't have any
Perimeter AT&T store had none
Northpoint AT&T had 32gb, and they were getting a shipment of 16gb at 3pm

I didnt want the 32gb, so I'm going to wait until somewhere gets the 16gb... Anyone got any updates?

Here's the number for NP: (770) 754-3992 If you don't have it already, look into the Apple Store app. If you click "Map and Hours" for each store, the number will pop up.

Despite the mixed reviews for the Bumpers, I'm thinking I want to get one first to hold me over and protect my iPhone a little, then as more manufacturers (Incase, for example) make more/better cases, I might end up exchanging the Bumper for something new.

Mall of Georgia has been out since I bought the last one Friday, just called for my wife.

That could be a good sign that they should be getting a shipment anytime now, or it could mean nobody is going to see a shipment for quite a while.

I am added to the priority list so hopefully I'll get an email soon.

To make things even better, I got a phone call from the MacMail rep, turns out they dont even have the ones I ordered in stock.

What the ****.

I've been waiting for my 32gb since i pre-ordered at an ATT store mid afternoon on June 15!! Of course it was a retailer, not a corp store, and now im screwed until one shows up randomly there. I need to find a store that has one asap...has anyone tried calling ATT corp or Apple corp to see when local stores are slated to receive shipments?

Same at Mall of GA Wednesday afternoon. Had about 100 hanging inconspicuously on the wall.

Try AT&T across the road. They had plenty of walk-in phones Tuesday lunchtime.

Wow, really? The guy told me when I called they had some at Perimeter yesterday - I didn't get a chance to go by and check yet - I guess maybe they sold out (already?). I kind of want to wait to see some of the colors in person - people's shots on here are useful, but I think lighting it throwing off some of the true color.

I just looked at the Mall of GA map for you. If you're entering through JCP, go through JCP into the mall entrance. Turn left, towards Nordstrom. Apple is on the second level next to Belk.

NickG420

Go in through the second level Belk entrance, it is so much faster.

Go all the way through Belk to the inner mall area and make your way to the right hand side of the atrium or right hand walkpath whatever you want to call it.
Just follow it down and you will run right into the Apple store on the right.

Thanks, I actuly rode over to belk to see if they were open and they had 10pm listed so I just waited. Now I just made the purchase, since I dropped it while walking in and there a small dent in he corner but nothing major. Oh well, I can stop bitching now, back to getting stuck in traffic.

I can't believe it's been almost a week since I bought the last IP4 at Mall of Ga on Friday and they still have not received a shipment...WTF Apple??

I was worried because my priority list reservation was not showing up in my Apple Store App or online, but I called and the lady told me I was still in the system so whatever...I'm almost over it now, and I'm about to the point of I'll get one for my wife when I get one...I'm tired of looking.

Anybody had any luck finding a store with phones in stock?

Krafty
Jul 1, 2010, 03:55 PM
In case you guys want to find out:

Permieter - (678) 459-9800
Mall of GA - (678) 288-3400
North Point - (770) 754-3992
Lenox Square - (404) 443-3410And of course as soon as it says "select from 5 options," just press 5.

I would also suggest my AT&T store which is located in Lithonia (Stonecrest Mall, 770-484-3720), as they really dont get too much business. The manager also knows what he's talking about in terms of general questions with the iPhone, he offered the upgrade swap and mSIM card for free when I got mines, in which my rep did in under 15 minutes (she had to replace my mSIM and my moms SIM card).

Posting from inside the Perimeter store…

Overheard an employee say they are out of phones, but there is a priority list.

Regarding bumpers…they had some blacks, but are currently sold out. No colors either, of course (I don't think any physical store has had colors).

Just spoke to North Point...

They had some (black) earlier in the day, sold out at this point. If you're looking for a bumper, the trick seems to be to call in the morning, and if they have any, get your ass over there.

Yeah, it was the same for the Apple iPad cases. Evening and weekends; none. Then I dropped in late morning, and the wall was positively bulging with them. Checked again next day and it was bare.

I blame all these work-from-home types: They can swan off to the store whenever they like ;)

I'd think Radioshack would be a better bet than WalMart but still a long shot....will call them in a few minutes.
