any one now where i can get a bumper south of atlanta?

no, but I'd like to know also...

The bumpers seem like an Apple exclusive, so there are nil chances of any 3rd party retailers selling them. I'm honestly shocked that not one 3rd party has mimicked something 99% identical for like half the price. They'd make a huge profit.

Just FYI picked up a 16GB at the Oakwood Wal-Mart. She had about 11 left when I bought mine. They have been there for 2 days she said so noone knows about them.

For anyone interested Oakwood is about 45 min north of Atlanta right outside of Gainesville. Just take 85N to 985N and get off Exit 16 and hang a left, you'll run right into WalMart on the left.

Thanks everyone for all your help!

Posting from inside Lenox...

They've got bumpers - not on the wall - you've got to ask one of these busy specialists and they'll go back and find one.

They've definitely got black, white and blue - haven't seen any other colors floating around.

Yep. They were probably right and didn't have any there yesterday when you went. I think most of the stores had some stock on Thursday morning but sold out of them by the evening.

Today, Friday...they definitely had Bumpers in the back at 3:30. I went back around 7:30 to return one of the ones I bought, and by then they had them hanging on the accessories wall. A lot of black ones, and a couple blues and whites.

I'm pretty sure stock is only going to get better from here. Doing some reading in the iPhone Accessories forum, it seems as if a number of stores nationwide got black, blue and white Bumpers today.

Phone round several stores. I did.

My nearest one wouldn't pick up, but eventually did and were clueless. The next closest one didn't answer until the fourth attempt, but then said "Yeah, plenty in stock and no waiting. Come on down!'. Or something like that... Can't remember exactly 'cause I was doing a little dance. :)

Today, I went to north point and perimeter. They both have colors bumper, specifically the green, white, and pink at north point, blue was not at northpoint and since they was still stacking bumper up at perimeter not sure if there were blue. And permiter has orange along with green and other colors.

Reserved mine the afternoon of the 30th and it came in today. The charge hit my account yesterday but I received no call from AT&T, so I called them this afternoon to see what the deal was. I got the "oh yeah, I was just about to call you" line.

I now have the phone (in a case) in hand!

Good luck to the rest of you.

People have waited in line for hours on end. This has been one of the most successful product launches in history and people are still wiling to drive all over town and wait in line for hours just to try and get their hands on one. The demand far exceeded anyone's, including Apple's, wildest expectations. You're obviously still hunting around still trying to get your hands on one. They're selling them as fast as they can make them. I'd call that blowing it.

They blew it in not providing enough at launch.. they should have had enough for each store to have hundreds in stock, not a measly 10 or 20 at certain stores. I know some stores had 100+ but still, not enough obviously. If this is the same story at the next big iphone launch then well there's nothing else to be said really maybe a *facepalm*.

I'm curious -- how do you accurately predict that demand will be ten times higher than the demand for the previous model?

Actually, though, from the business perspective having a perceived shortage is a good thing in terms of generating hype and demand. They only "blew it" if they lose more customers to a competitor than they gain due to the perceived scarcity. Have you switched to Android or WinMo7? :)

Anyway, I'm waiting to see the white version in person before deciding. Less angst that way anyway.

The one at Northlake. AT&T was definitely faster than going through Apple. My original pre-order with apple was on the 16th and it would've come in about the same time. (I cancelled that to change to a 32gb.)

Do you really think having 10 in stock at certain stores, I'm talking places with a high population not the boondocks would be a sufficient supply? The average store had around maybe 50? They should over supply rather than under supply, which would make consumers happier? but whatever works for apple.

You're looking at it wrong. (sorry, couldn't resist)

Having to wait for it makes the consumer unhappy short term, but builds the hype and tends to generate more business overall if done correctly. This is something Apple's pretty good at. Nintendo too.

As to the demand, it seems that the demand has been far higher than anticipated. They sold around 1 million 3GS's in the first three days last year. Compare to over 1.7 million iphone4's in the first three days this year. There tends to be significant lead times on components and manufacturing of this sort of stuff; you can only ramp up production capacity just so fast. Plus it's a waste of money to have a bunch of unsold inventory sitting around; same for underutilized manufacturing capacity. Thats just wasted money.

Yes, it'd have been nice if they'd had tons of extras sitting in the back rooms and nobody would have to wait. Not what happened. You do your best to forecast demand and balance inventory costs against potential lost sales due to stock-out situations. If you underforecast you do what you can, but it's impossible to change your production capacity overnight.

I wonder how the situation would be different if the white version had come out on release day. Still something strange with that situation; they had a bunch already built for WWDC, so what was different about the main production runs? How much of the intended inventory levels was lost due to that change and to what degree did they shift production capacity from white to black models? These are rhetorical questions, of course.

Anyway, glad to see your phone is available. Enjoy. I keep telling myself I'm going to wait until I can see the white ones side-by-side with the black, but it's getting more difficult every time I see that display.

I guess in a perfect world everyone who wanted one in their favorite color would have one with no defects etc.. but certainly calling store after store day after day only to be told the same thing every day is frustrating beyond belief, actually I never did I was one of the patient ones who only called every other day lol. I guess if I really wanted one at launch I should have pre-ordered but not even all the pre-orders could be fulfilled though and I certainly wasn't hardcore enough to wait in line for 12 hours straight nor get in line at 3 am. I'm just glad I finally got mine and it definitely was worth the wait, I upgraded from an original iphone, a world of difference. Good luck to the rest of you, you will eventually receive yours!

Finally got mine! Was headed home for lunch in Alpharetta and decided to stop by the Midway Walmart on Hwy 9 and they had 3 in stock, so I picked up 2. I think Walmart has been getting them Sunday night every week. I would check the Walmart on Windward Pkwy as they said they hadn't received any for this week yet, might get lucky and find some there tomorrow morning. This thing is amazing, and no reception issues AT ALL. Good luck!

For anyone wanting one, as of this evening there are three black bumpers sitting in the Walmart at: 3245 Lawrenceville Suwanee Road Northwest, Suwanee, GA. Look in the iPhone accessories section - not the iPod section.

They also had some iPhone 4 hard-shell cases in red and blue "metallic soft-touch" finish. Can't remember the make.

AFAIK, finding iphone4's in-stock is still pretty much a crapshoot.

Not to point out the obvious, but your best bet is going to be to pick up the phone and call around to the various outlets you know sell Apple iphones: Apple stores, AT&T corporate stores, BestBuy, Walmart, RadioShack.

Highest chance is likely to be an Apple store. Long-shot would be to check out AT&T stores in the less-affluent parts of town.

Again, your best bet is pick up the phone and call around. Then post back to share the info like I did.
