So I have been looking to get a macbook. Tell me im wrong on this. Base line macbook 1099. Student discount 999.. Ipod Touch 300. If I sell the touch wouldnt that make the computer 700 bucks. Sorry but thats a Great deal for a New macbook. Is there anyway of doing this. Even if I got 250 for my Ipod touch thats still a good deal on the whole package.
what are you thoghts...to risky?

not risky at all, great deal, although your probably only going to get like $225 for the ipod touch since theres so many out there from people doing the same thing.

That's basically the breakdown, yes.
Keep in mind that you will also have to pay tax, and it's unlikely you'll be able to get a full $300 for your Touch.

I wasnt figuring getting 300 for the touch, and tax would only be 57 bucks. Works out to prob 800 for the new macbook. still not bad.
maybe ill have a garage sale and see what I can pull together.

Don't forget to take advantage of the free printer deal and sell that to knock off a few more bucks!

is it just a 100 bucks towards a printer? ( some of the printers being $100)

Basically - some may not be eligible for the rebate, but many will. Also of note, the printer deal is ending fairly soon.

For the baseline macbook, it's probably a better deal...however just to warn others as well, please calculate your tax (I'm glad you did lol).
I'm Canadian (and for my province, I'm counting a total of 15% tax), buying the blackbook with a student discount and a touch vs. buying a refurb blackbook (which is 100$ cheaper to start compared to a student discounted blackbook)...you can see my little calculation, but seriously...do your own, the tax that a $300 purchase adds makes the deal slightly less great.
Blackbook w/ Touch
============
1449
319
----
TAX: $265.2
----
Sub Total: 2033.2
----
Rebate: -319
----
Final without selling touch: $1714 At this point, I am paying $163 more than a refurb, which translates to an iPod Touch purchase of 163.
----
Possible Sale?: ~250?
----
Final: $1464
Blackbook Refurb
============
1349
----
Tax: 202.35
----
Total: $1551.35
Either way, I'd still obviously suggest getting the deal, especially if you want an ipod touch, since getting it for a technical ~$150 is better than 300.
NOTE: I'm comparing against a REFURB because I don't see anyone buying with a student discount and not getting the deal.

Yeah, the sales tax killed me on my MBP.

It ends July 21st so there's still about a month.
Also, if you try Craigslist you can likely get more like $250 for the Touch. People on Craigslist are dumb and pay much more than iPods are generally worth. For that reason I may try at first for an extra $10 or $15

They constantly renew that rebate program, so I'd be surprised if they don't announce a new one with the same terms running from July-September.

Not risky at all. But I would think about keeping the Touch. Those things are gonna get super sweet once the App. Store is up and running! Then just sell whatever other iPod you have been using.

Don't forget you need to foot the bill first before you get your money back.
And what about AppleCare?

i would get apple care later this year...off ebay or here.
and i know i must foot the bill first. thats sorta obvious. seeing apple wont give you a computer much less anything...unless you hand them money.
and to the others. the thing is i already have an ipod touch. ( 16gb)
new question... how much would one of these new printers i get sell for. say i get the $100 one, what could i sell it for? basically whats their retail value?
thanks guys

It hardly matters. Get the $100 printer+Get the rebate=FREE!. Then sell it as unused(some damage to box) on Craigslist/eBay. I would say you could get anywhere between $50-$100.
