Plan on getting there around 6 or 7 am as I have a reservation, how was the reservation line last year for the Michigan Ave store? I know the lines in general were crazy but I don't recall what the reserve lines were like.

I'll be at Michigan Ave around 5AM with my friend and his girlfriend. Look for the nutty kids with an iPad who are having too good of a time. We all have reservations so I don't anticipate many problems unless systems go down.

IF anyone on the northside is planning on hitting the Skokie Apple store on June 24, 2010, use the Skokie Thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=942202) to coordinate efforts or chat about it.

I don't have a reservation (are they still available?).
Anyone's best guess on my luck if I get there at 6AM? Think I should be able to get one?

I passed by the store around 5:30pm on Wednesday and there were maybe 25 people in line. I am sure if the storm scared some off or what. I don't have a reservation, still not sure if i'm going to get in line. 10am meeting at work really a killer.
I will report back here around 11pm.

I was there today around 4pm and I was surprised to see that many peeps line up.
That was a killer storm, I wouldn't be surprised if most took off, or went inside a store.

No such luck. I've heard the line is already to St Clair.
Edit: Apparently, it's not quite there yet.

Wow. I stopped by the store around 10:45AM and there were only 10 people in front of me. I just overheard that they would defintrly sell out today but at least have a hundred or so. Needless to say, I'm in line now.

Called the store, they said they have none available (at least for folks that didn't pre-order). I asked when they would get more and she said "we find out we're getting more when they show up."

Well, I walked into the Michigan Ave store and put my name on a waiting list for the phone (black 32GB). I asked how long he thought it would be before they had one for me. He said anywhere between 2 days and a week and a half. Seemed like the easiest route for me at this point, as they are no longer taking reservations online unless you have it shipped to your house.
Let me know if anyone hears anything different! I'd be curious to hear if anyone had luck in the Chicagoland area getting one at Best Buy, Walmart or Radio Shack. The other option, I guess, would be getting in line real early Tuesday at an AT&T store, hoping they have stock that wasn't already pre-ordered.

Oak Brook has been having great stock supply in case you want to give them a call.
And if you go there, LMK if you see any black bumpers ;)

I don't understand why people would want to drive/transit to the store and stand in line rather than just get it shipped.

Some of us *tried* to get an iPhone reservation shipped, but were unable to do so. In my case, tried 2 PCs, 3 Macs, and total 6 different browsers. Was unable to get through to have it mailed to me, via both Apple.com and AT&T.
Only choice was to reserve and pick one up in person. Would've LOVED to not have to wait in line, but it wasn't possible.
BTW, had to use the Apple Store App on my 3GS in order to get a reservation in the first place.

Anyone in the Chicagoland area have the low-down on iPhone 4 availibility? When can I walk into an Apple or AT&T store (or Best Buy, Radio Shack, Walmart) and pick up one of these bad boys without having to wait in line?

A guy I work with just yesterday walked in to an AT&T Company Store in the south suburbs; walked out with a black 16GB iPhone in about 20 minutes.
Gotta keep calling either AT&T Stores or your nearest Apple Store for stock.

I didn't walk in / walk out, but I went in yesterday morning to the AT&T big store near the Sears Tower area and ordered one - it's coming tomorrow.

Walked into the Radio Shack (guess it's called Shack now), and asked if they had any iPhone 4s. They said they had a few, but had already sold them to pre-orders or folks on waiting list. So I put my name on their list. There were only 4 people on the list! Then again, they may only get 4 phones shipped when they get more.
Called some Best Buy stores and they were out also.
Continuing to wait...

Well, last Saturday (6/26) I had put my name on a reservation list at the Apple Store on Michigan Ave in Chicago. The Apple employee thought it would be anywhere between 2 days and a week and a half.
Well, today I got the email that the phone was at the store waiting for me. Six days isn't too long to wait for a new phone! Haven't had a chance to play with it too much, but can tell I like the display already! And having 4 times the memory is going to be nice (my old phone was the 3G 8GB model). More music, yeah!
Seems like a waiting list at an Apple Store is the way to go! I tried at a Best Buy earlier in the week, and they don't have a waiting list. He said they get shipments in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So if you can afford to hang out at Best Buy on Tuesdays and Thursdays hoping for a shipment, that may be an option too! :)

Anyone have any idea about whether Michigan Ave will have phones this week? I'm still on backorder through the online store.
I called a couple days ago and was told they weren't accepting any more names for the Priority List, there were no more Priority Lists, but come back early this week. Maybe that means walk-ins? Hope so!

I got 2 32gb @ the BB store in Evanston on Howard, last 2 though.
I just came in to ask when they would be expecting shipment, and dude said Oh I got 2 in stock, so I used my BB card and brought them home:D

Called at 11:30, they had several 32s in stock. Decided, what the heck, I'll just pay the extra $100 and get the 32 and cancel my order for the 16.
Wasn't able to get there until 3 and they were all sold out :(
Best Buys, nothing.
AT&T - guy didn't even know Apple was doing walk-ins.
Gah.

No.
I was told several years ago that Apple retail stores do not sell refurbished hardware items. Ever. A manager at the North Michigan Avenue store told me that.
Online is the only place to get refurbbed hardware.
