i'm sure it'll be clearly marked. i'd guess it to be either the one by french's bakery or the one by pottery barn.

I'll be there for sure.

Last year the Mall Security wouldn't let people line up till 5am, with the store opening at 8am; I wonder if they'll tolerate earlier lines?

What time is everybody else planning on showing up?

I was thinking about getting there around 12-3, depending on who else is going to be there early. I don't want to be the weird dude stalking around the mall at 1 in the morning unless there are other people with me.

You are right. I work for South Coast Plaza Congierge. Security will kick out all and any who go on to South Coast Property before 5am. At 5am, they will allow people to start lining up by the glass door by Pacific Whey Cafe. at 6 am they will let everyone in the Plaza in a single line to line up infront of the Apple Store. Then we all know what time Apple opens, 8am!! WOOT WOOT!:)

According to Apple's website (http://www.apple.com/retail/southcoastplaza/)

It looks like they got iPhones across the board and in other stores too. So you can most likely get an iPhone on Saturday.

Hey AuDioFreaK39
I will be there around 4AM, first time getting in line for Iphone. I reserved the phone now I need to be early to ensure I get 2 of them. Any tips for this newbie on waiting at the South Coast Plaza, are mall doors open at 4am ? Thanks and see you there.

hey guys I'm actually at the store right now, its 8:33pm and almost closing time on July 18th. Since I have nothing better to do tonight, I'll be here around 2am and you guys can meet up with me outside of the mall. There is a parking garage where we are allowed to wait in our cars and talk until the security lets us in the mall - at least that's what we did last year heh.

Feel free to send me an instant message.

All the best.

Security just kicked us out. I literally pulled up and a group of about 8 people were being kicked out....told to come back after 5am when they would let us line up.

I went to my car and tried to start it....and it wouldn't start. Hahhaah piece of ****!!

So security gave me a jump....and now I'm at dennys parking lot with my car in idle because I don't want it to break down....so I can get to the sgore on time.

Man.....this phone better be worth it.

Hahahahahaa

Naptime, be back later!

it took us that long to get my account all set up.

I got my 3gs at the spectrum store 5 days after it was released. I was first in line that day on a wensday at there was about 20 people behind me at 10 o'clock. I expect it to be madness this time around.

Was told by Metro Point manager that they expect huge crowds due to this being the biggest Apple product launch ever. She emphasized to arrive early. Reserved phones sold on a first-come' first-served basis.

I plan to line up before five. Exactly where to line up will be determined by any security traffic crontrols in place on the 24th..

Jun 22, 2010, 05:01 PM
So I was planning on going to SCP at around 4 am Thursday morning. Yesterday I got a call from my dentist's office to confirm my appointment for wisdom teeth extractions this Wednesday. I made this appointment more than a month ago so I had forgotten about it. Can't even cancel the appointment.. they charge a $100 fee to cancel. My appointment at 8:30 in the morning but I don't think I'll be able to go stand in line at 4 am next morning since all my wisdom teeth are impacted. This sucks!

Honestly I am not sure, I really doubt Cerritos as it will be the first launch there and I don't know how prepared they will be..As far as letting us line up, or even having a proper designated area for us to wait at. I'd rather go somewhere in which I know where the line will be just so I don't miss out.

I would love to go to the Grand Opening of the store however..

Also, I may go to Fashion Island, or hell even The Grove in LA just because I know those stores are outside, and I would much rather wait in line outside of a store rather then outside of the mall waiting to go in and hoping others didn't sneak in and get in line ahead of me.. I know I sound paranoid but I REALLY don't want to risk it.

What are your plans?

btw, crazy your from Boston, I have tons of family out there in Framingham..

Okay, now you're making me paranoid.

:p I have a reservation at SCP, so I'm definitely going there. But I'm thinking about stopping by Cerritos after, just to see how it's going and get a little Opening Day/Launch Day hype. It's only a couple of minutes out of my way, so I might as well. But I'm not willing to give up my reservation for it.

AuDioFreaK39
Jun 23, 2010, 01:10 AM
Yea thats what I was thinking. Get there about 4am and just wait in the car until we can line up.

I've been first in line at the South Coast Plaza store for two years now, once for the iPhone 3G on July 11, 2008 and again for the iPhone 3GS on June 19, 2009. I'm not going to mention what time I arrived at the store (I'll post about it after the launch is over ;)), but as a word of advice I can recommend that it would be in your best interest to make friends with the security guards.

As a general rule, the South Coast Plaza security guards allow 24-hour parking inside the West Parking Structure (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=33.690507,-117.893373&num=1&t=h&sll=33.692169,-117.891932&sspn=0.00185,0.003076&ie=UTF8&ll=33.690864,-117.89334&spn=0.00185,0.003076&z=19&layer=c&cbll=33.690521,-117.893363&panoid=peApHvcvBRteUHNi9y52WQ&cbp=12,326.57,,0,-0.12) located on South Coast Drive (http://traveler.southcoastplaza.com/stores-and-restaurants/area). Lines will begin at approximately 4:30am to 5:00am (depending on the leniency of the security guards) in front of the glass doors that I noted in post 25 (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=7875652&postcount=25) of this thread.

By the way, if any of you enthusiast campers ever end up getting hungry in the early hours of the night, there's an IHOP open 24 hours on Harbor Blvd right by the I-405 (http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/7307/ihopcostamesa.png).

The launch of Apple's iPhone 4 is going to be reminiscent of the iPad launch back on April 3rd. I was at the Apple Store in downtown San Francisco for that launch, first in line with a friend, but I wasn't buying the iPad. In fact, I was simply there to keep company and to tell the press why I wasn't buying a first-generation iPad. Aside from my troublesome appearance at the front of the line for a first-gen tablet I wasn't going to buy, the press listened carefully to my opinions and it made news on TechCrunch, so I can say I'm proud of that. :D

However, I am very much looking forward to the launch of the iPhone 4, and I do believe that the consumers have spoken in waves of anticipation that are sure to leave a mark on early smartphone history for the beginning of this decade. I will be publishing a review on the IT news site that I work for as soon as I walk out of the store with the device and get an InvisibleShield professionally installed from Fusion of Ideas (http://fusionofideas.com/) over at the Irvine Spectrum Center.

Just be there by 5am for starters so you have the best shot at getting a good place in line. It will probably take 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get out of the mall once the Apple store opens. It might be faster but just be prepared for at least an hour.

Also anyone think the pre-order line is going to be longer than the no reservation line?

Hey everyone. I was one of the many of whom were unfortunate to reserve the iPhone 4 a couple weeks ago.

Now, I'm wondering, based off previous experience, if Apple stores normally receive a decent amount of iPhones reserved for walk-in customers. I'm planning to head out to SCP at around 5 and am hoping to head home with an iPhone in hand. Is SCP normally a busy/bustling area at the release of new Apple products?

After much debate between getting a Droid or an iPhone, I have decided to stick with the iPhone.

Since I did not pre-order, I'll be getting in line early just like I did for my iPhone 3G. How early you ask?, well that is a highly garded trade secret. :-P

SCP is the place to be since since security won't let people camp out overnight. I'll actually be able to get a little sleep tonight before joining the line.

If you see me in line be sure to say "hi". I'll be the guy in his 20s wearing a white Chapman University cap.

If you find me I'll save your spot. I'll be the guy with a black t-shirt and jeans on and holding an iPad.

I'll probably be trying my luck out here as well. I was originally planning for Cerritos, however I heard there's about 300 people there right now, and the line formally began to start at 10pm.

So 5am's crunch time, right?

If you see two college kids hiding in the bushes behind the west parking lot, that would be my buddy and I. ;)

We were sincerely thinking about doing it, but after considering our other strategic options we decided against it. Just finished breakfast at the IHOP on Harbor Blvd, and now we're sitting at the Starbucks in Costa Mesa Square trying to pass the time.

Anyone waiting all night for South Coast Plaza want to meet up somewhere near the parking lot and hang for a few hours? If you aren't at home right now, that's really all we can do.

I got there at 6:30 with a reservation. By that time, I was in line on South Coast Drive, about halfway between Bear st. and the driveway to enter the parking area. At about 7:10 the line moved about 50 feet. I ended up leaving to go to work at 8:45, and the line had not moved that entire time since. I had about 100 people in front of me, and the line behind me stretched all the way onto Bear st, probably at least another 100-150 people.

I'm thinking about going back later today...anyone there able to provide updates on the status of the line and how fast it's moving (if at all)?

Mac Store employee just walked down the non preorder line asking what model people were in line for and took notes. Said he would be back to let people know if they have enough stock for the people currently in line.

I got there about 4:40, and was maybe #100 in the reservation line. (Black woman with Red Sox cap and cane) I was out of the store by 8:30, and then sat on the bench to sync before I left.

It was fairly painless, but by the time I walked out of the mall at 9:30, the people in the reservation line at the part just outside the door said that they had gotten there about 6 am, and they probably had another hour or hour and a half to go. And the reservation line was still to Bear street.

8:45 pm Update:

I was just there and the reservations line was still out to the parking lot.

The reservations line, however, was cut off at about 6 pm. Anyone who showed up after that time was given a claim check which gives them until close of business tomorrow to pick up their phone.

I was actually glad to be able to come back the next day. There were about 200 people ahead who made the cutoff, but there's no way they'll be out of there before midnight.

I left SCP at 12:15pm. The line was down to the walking store, about 50 -75 people?. I talked to two different people in the store, and asked if there would be iphones if I came back at 5:00pm. They both said "no". They weren't sure if everyone in the current line would get one. I asked about supply for tomorrow (Saturday) and they said they didn't know, "That we don't know until the morning". SCP currently set to open at 10:00am Saturday morning. I was told that I should call before I come down. It's kinda hard for me to imagine that they wouldn't have phones for the weekend.

Went to Apple Store yesterday, got there at 4:50PM, waited til 5:20PM and left with an iPhone 4 16GB. I talked to the employee and they said they had a sizable stock available for both sizes. YMMV since the line doubled by the time I left. Just call ahead and double check to see if they have any iPhones in stock since the line was for both the iPhone and iPad.
