Description:: In April Microsoft announced that it would be terminating WebDAV access to its Hotmail accounts at the end of June this year and replacing it with a proprietary service of Microsoft’s own creation (DeltaSync). This is bad news for Mail.app users with Hotmail accounts, who have been using utilities like HTTPMail and MacFreePOPs to access their email. After 30 June, they won’t work.

I have had a hotmail account for a very long time (before Microsoft acquired the service). This is what I have done to fix it. You can forward your hotmail to a google email address - problem solved:)

How exactly do you do that... without using 3rd party or paying for it?

I also started using Hotmail before M$ bought it out, and it's steadily gotten worse ever since. I've been putting up with a lot from them, and haven't really found another service I like (yes, I've tried Gmail and Yahoo, among others) but the worse they get trying to fix something that wasn't broken before they started fixing it the more I consider the massive undertaking that will be moving to something else. And it would be massive. I have e-mails going back to '99, and it's not like they make it easy to archive them, especially now by disabling WebDAV. Though it hasn't been working for awhile now anyway. I'd just use .Mac, but I don't want to have to pay for it every year in case I decide to cancel it for any reason.
It's funny, sometimes I almost think Microsoft wants to fail they screw things up so much.

Or perhaps it’s time to take another look at Gmail.^Best bit of advice that article gives.

My account stopped working a couple of weeks ago in Mail, so I've slowly started changing everything to my MobileMe account. Hated Hotmail anyway.
Glad I no longer need it.

I don't think FreePOPs uses WebDAV, does it?

I think I had hotmail only because I needed an MSN account. i wish everyone would stick to one thing. I get used to pasting in graphics into iChat, which you can't often do through Adium based on the medium.

Still using. You have no idea how many e-mails I have in there and how much of a pain it would be to migrate to something else. That said, after a few polite but firm e-mails to their support and feedback that have still gone unanswered, I'm still looking for something else. Still nothing grabbing my fancy though.
My favorite is still old Hotmail. :(

I am in the same boat. I have started porting everything over to gmail. But man it is a royal pain. Like you have had my hotmail/msn account for 10+ years and there are a ton of websites and forums that I have registered with that account not to mention all the emails I have saved. It is a hassle.
I don't know if you know this yet but httpmail plugin is now working with 10.5.3 now.

I'd have had an account for ten years now, but first I lost some e-mails back when the old limit was 2 MBs (which seems incredible now, and probably unbelievable to anyone under the age of 15 or so), and then I lost my password and didn't log in within the too-short time limit.
We should all be thankful to Google for forcing everyone to bump up their minimum storage space limit.
