There must be a lot of first-time buyers. That's the only way HP can be tops in the market. Of course selling them for 99 cents (or whatever the price is) at every Best Buy and Wal-Mart probably has something to do with it. HP: the toaster of computers.

lol, for all the fan fair, #7? Can I ask how many people here previously convinced apple was at least in top 3 for a year or two?

Mac is # 1! what a nice slogan.

This list appears to be a list hierarchically organizing the brands by name recognition and price (lowest to highest), which is what one would expect when looking at rates of product shipment in this country where a lot of people (arguably most) do not like to think too hard.

I'm not sure to what country you are referring, but these are world figures. Apple's position, AFAIK, is higher in the US market and has been lower rankwise in the world market for a long time.

This seems more driven by Sony's demise in terms of sales than Apple's growth.

Although Apple have increased sales by 67% this amounts to about 550k units. Dell on the other hand increased sales by 45% or about 1.4m units whilst HP increased by 40% or 1.7m units which means they're both still outgrowing Apple by a rate of about 3 to 1 in real sales. Apple aren't going to be No. 1 anytime soon.

The 66% of the >$1,000 market is also slightly disingenious as most laptop manufacturers have reduced prices. As mentioned Apple are the laggards in this sense.

Lies, damned lies and statistics I'm afraid.

Finally, does anyone know if VooDoo and Alienware are included in HP and Dell's figures?
