Obama Calls for More Responsibility From Black Fathers
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/16/us/politics/16obama.html?pagewanted=2&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

“I have been saying for some time now that he needs to talk more about his life experiences and what it means to be raised by a single mother,” Mr. Clyburn said. “He opened up.”

This line cracked me up most:
"Any fool can have a child."

I liked this too:
Mr. Obama spoke of the burden that single parenthood placed on his mother, who raised him with the help of his maternal grandparents.

“I know the toll it took on me, not having a father in the house,” he continued. “The hole in your heart when you don’t have a male figure in the home who can guide you and lead you. So I resolved many years ago that it was my obligation to break the cycle — that if I could be anything in life, I would be a good father to my children.”

Very nice. Let's see how the right tries to smear this.

That they can't say it without being called racist.

I heard sound bites of this this morning and the one thing I noticed is that he sounds more like preacher than a presidential candidate.

simple as that. try watching the whole thing. My fiance said th same thing. Her exact words were: "He sounds like a preacher." My response was, "It's definitely an important message.", to which she responded, "Amen."

He had the same "preacher-feel" in his other speech on religion (and whenever he's spoken in front of a church). I think I remember Bill Clinton also speaking in front of a church and sounding very "preacher" when giving a polished and positive message. It's kind of a "venue" thing. When in Rome.

perhaps i just equate preaching with religion then. talking good sense and responsibility doesn't mean preaching to me, it means reminding people of doing the right thing.
