If I was using Windows, I'd simply answer with "too much"! But since I'm on a Mac, there's no such thing as too much :D
Seriously though, I probably spend about 12 hours on the average day, more on weekends. But I don't get up to 16+ much unless I'm at a lan or something.

6 - 8 hours at work(windows PC, so i dont know if that counts)
2 - 3 hours at home (Mac)
Way too much time in front of a computer, but it's cold outside, so who cares about the wasted time:)

I'm home-schooled and I do all my work on the computer; and almost every job I've ever had was computer based. I probably spend around...um...let's see. at maximum probably 20 hours a day, but I probably average around 12-14 hours a day.
I love the internet. Before I had it at home I used to go to my local library and surf the web from 9AM - 9PM.

It's thanks to MacRumors and other Mac-related sites that I spend my 8-12 hours a day. I'd say I spend at least an hour of that time randomly surfing Mac sites, another hour drooling over some fancy new Apple hardware (and trying to picture how I'd pay for it), and the rest of my time is spent emailing, MSNing, and only occassionally, working.
That's not a bad thing, it's just... a thing.
Case in point, I have a massive end-of-semester strategic plan for my business policy course due in... 8.5 hours.... and I'm writing this response.

I hear ya! I'm on Windows machine pretty much all day at work (it's an office job so it's hard to avoid computer use in this environment). In fact I do most of my posts here from my office using Windows. :(
I voted in the 8-12 range, half of that is spent dealing with Windows, the other half is spent using my G4 at home. Or approx 6 bistfull hours working on my Mac :)

hmmmm, varies.... sometimes 12 hours a day but it is my main work as well as social machine. :)
Deadline time, I've been known to work 48 hours + straight to fix other peoples ******-ups with only Absolute Bull breaks  :p :p
As a general rule, I spend 60 hours a week on work/commercial projects.
But I REALLY love what I do! ;)

My time varies on a day to day basis. Still ends up being approximately eight hours. I keep a Diary/Journal, check websites, forums, and banking.

Maybe 15 minutes in the morning checking mail, etc.
8 hours at work in front of Win XP.
From the time I get home until I go to bed is usually about 7-8 hours on a weekday. Since most of my TV watching is on the computer (TV card in the Linux box and eyeTV on the PowerBook), I am often in front of the computer watching TV, or in front of it listening to music, or in front of it doing actual computer stuff (or even more than one at a time).
The results are kinda skewed for me b/c if I'm in my room, I'm either in bed or in front of the computer, even if I'm not using the computer :) If I'm not in the room, I'm either eating dinner, watching TV with my roommate, or playing a game on the PS2... or I'm not home.
So I guess 12-16 hours a day.

Between work and writing and playing games, I'm never away from any mac unless I'm sleeping or eating. Sometimes, that even isnt the case. Am I the only one who's ever fallen asleep at their mac?

8-10 hours on weekdays. I try to ease up quite a bit on the weekend. I'd be lucky to hit 2 hours a day on Saturday and Sunday unless I'm working on a big project.

Good point! Unfortunately I'm just old enough to remember :(
Well. I had a pen and paper, and I remember these funny things called books. I also remember using a typewriter to write reports.
(In fact this took about as long as with a WP, as with a typewriter you have to avoid mistakes, so I generally wrote out a draft beforehand. With a WP, I'm constantly going back and revising and correcting...)
I guess I must have watched quite a bit of TV. I also misspent much of my youth playing a lot of Dungeons & Dragons - in the days when you required an imagination!
This poll makes me realise I now spend way too much time in front of my computer....

Maybe there should be a freeware time clock. Then by punching in and out, we could all get accurate accounts of how many hours we've spent behind the computer. I punch in and out of my computer at work since I'm paid on an hourly basis and not salary.

Slightly over the 16 hour mark most days of the month.
I'm afraid I'm horribly addicted to my Mac.
Dual G5 2 ghz, 23" Cinema, EyeTV and ATI Remote, NetFlix, iTunes, UT2003....
So TV time gets thrown in as well.
I'm sorry Steve, I do want a media Mac.
50+ Large Screen LCD to come by Christmas and to be hung over my computer and hooked in to the video card.

I find it difficult to believe that that many people use it 16 hours+, with even a small sleep schedule of 6 hours per night, and driving back and forth from work, that leaves like 1-2 hours of your own time everyday

My guess would be that they probably work at home. Some people can train themselves to get by on less sleep. I hope that the majority of that time is productive.

No offence to anyone, but I honestly have better things to do than spend 16+ hours on my computer! I love my computer just as much as the next guy, and due to the nature of my job, I work on it 6-8 hours a day, but that's about it. I'll spend an hour or so, maybe, when I get home, but that's it!
I enjoy going to the gym, running, playing all sorts of sports, acting, modelling, DJing, reading, writing, playing in the symphony orchestra, hanging out with my friends, spending time with my family - and getting a decent 7 hours of sleep every night! Although people can train themselves to go with less sleep, it isn't actually very healthy for you and shortens your lifespan, so that's something I always put as a high priority. My thinking is, without your health, you don't have much else, and what you do have doesn't mean much if you don't live long enough to enjoy it!
So, I'd have to say I fall into the 8-10 hour range/day - and that suits me fine. But hey, to each his own! And trust me, with my nice new Mac, it's hard not to want to spend more time on it!

I can honestly say that I am never NOT in front of a computer, (unless I am sleeping). I have four computers on my desk at work, three PCs (yuck) and one Sun. I am there for at least 9-10 hours a day, and then at home I have my 4 Macs. These include my desktop, (a dual screen DP 1.25 G4) where I usually work for 2-3 hours a night, and my laptop (a 500mhz G4 Tibook) that is either sitting next to me at the desk with the DP G4 or out in the livingroom with me so I can browse the net when Im vegin' in front of the TV. Im even thinking about wiring up a docked laptop and an in-dash LCD screen into my car. I guess I can honestly say that I am "wired"...

Oh... hours per day... whoops. I read that as hours per week.
I was thinking "16+? That's enormously low!"
I've admitted to spending more than two-thirds of my life in front of the computer.
I demand a recount.

I hope everyone that spends 4+ hours each day at a computer have good quality displays. A cheap CRT running at less than 75Hz will really make your eyes hurt after a few hours. An LCD at native resolution is generally the best to prevent eye strain.
