Has Apple ever used 8 bit lcds in their notebooks?

I'm about to buy a MBP and I've been digging through threads on the current lcds in the MB and MBP and I'm just wondering ...

Has apple ever used 8 bit lcds in any of their notebooks in the past?

Do any current notebooks by any manufacturer use 8 bit lcds or all notebooks restricted to 6 bit panels for technical reasons?

I don't know of ANY laptop manufacturer that uses 8 bit displays - pretty sure they're all 6 bit.

Thinkpads and S-IPS panels are 8-bit.

Do you know the specific brands of Thinkpads? Because most of those I have looked at looks like pure crap.

T6x do, X6x with Multiview do, I believe some of the R-series do. Well you have to get the high-resolution/upgrades.

Apparently, the flexview displays used in thinkpads were discontinued because IBM/Lenovo couldn't secure a steady quantity of LCDS from the manufacturer. Very sad because it was the only really high quality display available for laptops, except that it wasn't very bright.

Oh cool, thanks for that info. Knew about the S-IPS panels but wasn't sure if there were any small, laptop sized ones in use.
