Anyway to get the macbook to not go into standby when closed (plugged into external)

Hi, I was wondering if theres anyway to stop this from happening. Everytime I plug into my CRT monitor, and want to close the laptop lid, it then goes into standby.

if you plug in the power and a usb keyboard or mouse all you have to do is wake it with the keyboard or mouse and it will display on your CRT.
