I forgot to add:

I drive a 2001 Jetta VR6. Its black on black - I'll attach pics later.

Im doing some design and web work for a startup motorsports company here where I live. The owners are absolutely nuts - they have a 2003 Final Edition GTS Viper they built to have 1000hp, and a 2002 Z06 Vette thats about to go under the knife, and they just aqquired a .

They let me drive both of them whenever I want..the Viper is absolute insanity. I'm scared to give more than 1/2 throttle, lest I soil my pants!!!

:D

Why do all you guys blur your plates?! What is someone going to do with your license plate number?! Ask a cop to look it up to see where you live?

I never understood that, either. It's not like the thousands of people who see my license plate on my car every day are any different than the thousands of people on here who would see my car.

i think it just the amount of information we disclose about ourselves on the net. There is a point where i feel uncomfortable giving out my personal information. I mean, by now there is enough information about me floating around that you could get a pretty good idea of where im from, what i am like, what my habits are, and what material possesions i have. That's a little more information than i would like for anyone to know without me telling them personally.

profiling (stalking) is quite common and I would like to stay out of someone's hard drive as much as possible... yet not lose the sense of community found here by revealing personal interests to 'friends'. It's just a judgement call. locally, anyone can plainly see my llicense plate, but they don't have any other information about me (other than my car's make/color and my driving habits).

ok; so, call me paranoid. :D

That is so, so sweet. I wish Honda or Toyota would develop/put out a hybrid pickup truck or SUV.....they probably are in the works. Seeing rich women driving their one or two kids around in a seven-seater Suburban that gets 10 MPG makes me sick. We *need* hybrid SUV's and trucks with decent power and awesome EPA ratings.

Amen.

A hybrid version of the Lexus RX 330 is due out this summer, as well as a Ford Escape using Toyota's Hybrid system. The hybrid version of the Toyota Highlander should be out early next year. The next generation Toyota Tundra is also supposed to offer a hybrid version. I think the next generation starts in model year 2006 or 2007. The hybrid may be a year or two after that, because that's just how Toyota seems to do things. Also, they are talking about a hybrid Camry for 2006. I don't know if they mean model year or calander year 2006. They have publicly stated that they intend to eventually offer every model with a hybrid system. They don't seem to be in a hurry to put hybrids in the Scions, though. They say right now the demographic that the Scions are marketed to can't afford the extra cost. Personally, I think that when compared to the body style of a Prius or Insight, many people outside that demo would consider a hybrid Scion if it were available.

I'd love a car, but living in London a car is pointless as the traffic is terrible and tube/buses are alot better now.

Who'd want a car when insurence, tax and fuel in England is soooooo expensive? Not to mention service costs and repairs.

So to get around this, I nick my sister car when i need one :D

Its a 1991 Nissan Figaro, one of the most bonkers cars ever to come out of Japan. It looks like a 1950's Fiat coupe, but Nissan did a limited edition of these cars in Japan (only 20,000 built). Built on Nissan Micra underpinnings, its got a pokey 1.0 Turbo charged engine along with a luxurious leather interior with Air con.

I feel a bit camp driving it around, but its brilliant in the summer when the roofs down, and you get all kinds of people asking you questions.

Hummers are rare. they are pretty rare in the city, and very rare offroad. the same is true of the Cayenne, and of, for instance, the previously mentioned G-Wagen.

mercedes sells more basic models of the G here.... the best selling _true_ offroad cars here ...perhaps they sell the luxury G only in the USA ...those smaller TDIs fly off the shelf ...
they are very common for forest rangers, the austrian army use them as their standard-off road 'jeep' etc.

so will post pics later from my(parents) cars

"Beemers" are BMW motorcycles

"Bimmers" are BMW cars

We have a 2001 BMW 325iT (touring/wagon) and a 2002 VW Passat (1.8L turbo wagon). My only regrets are both are automatics. . .

BMWs by far and away are among the most superb automobiles produced. Truly amazing vehicles.

tbh, even car magazines refer to BMW cars as 'beemers', though you do get 'bimmer' used in reference also. More or less interchangeable, I've never heard anyone quote this as a true convention.

Soon after we bought our first BMW car a few years ago (a 525i) I referred to it as our "beemer" and was immediately corrected by a BMW enthusiast. Okay, so I won't that expression anymore. No loss.

A great car, btw. Not as reliable as a Toyota or a Honda, but oh that road feel!

So, does anyone know what the BMW logo represents? No fair looking it up. ;)

That's why i've never liked sport cars or sport tires (with few exceptions); the road around here feels like crap! Who wants to feel all the uneven spots, pot holes, gravel, and speed bumps?

I stick with slighly less gripping tires and a semi-sport-luxury car. Who can afford to pick the road you drive on? The ACHD thinks road construction is a good source of state income and employment.

I'm pretty sure it was a Vauxhall VX220 as opposed to an Opel Speedster pictured but it's a moot point because they're the same car anyway.

The VX220/Speedster is actually a reasonably environmentally friendly car. The European standards are (apart from California) probably a little stricter than the American ones. It's the Asian countries and New Zealand we have to worry about. ;)

I heard about two years back that the Opel Speedster was coming to the US, but I haven't seen anything materialize that would confirm it. I remember Motortrend and Car and Driver doing articles on it, though. It's a beautiful car. I'm sure it'd be fun to drive on a nice summer afternoon.

Oh well. I have my eye on the Pontiac Solstice coming out this summer. I'd get one, but I heard that next year a supercharged version will be rolling into dealerships...after 4 years of driving my Probe around, I just cannot imagine driving something that didn't have boost. There's something about the sound of a turbine spooling up to 150,000 rpm and then the lunge forward you get when your wheels suddenly have an extra 150 lb/ft of torque with a sudden sound of air being shot through the bypass valve as you shift gears that just puts a smile to your face.

Here is a photo of the model so you know what it looks like.

A tnak of fuel for $10-14?! Thats...well...thats cheap. £0.80 a litre over here in Britain so thats about...$6 a gallon (if I can do conversions and stuff in my head...I really need to buy Tiger)

£0.80/L is about $5.519/gal. Pretty expensive, but half of that is taxes. Of course, for a $10-$14 fill up now, you must have a 5 gallon tank :p. It costs me almost $30 to fill my tank :(

Lately, I've been thinking of getting a motorcycle. I looked a little bit at some used BMW's. They sure cost less than the used car I've been looking at. Not like I could afford either right now anyway :(

The last time I checked, 60-75% of the cost of fuel in Great Britain is tax. That's quite normal everywhere EXCEPT the USA, where the tax comprises 10-20% of the price.

That VX220 gets about 30mpg on a typical drive
(http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/motoring/car-specifications/Vauxhall/VX220+%282000-%29/VA005411/)
I wouldn't fancy the insurance cost though - group 19 - Ouch!

Insurance Group 19
Fuel Economy: Urban 23.7
Fuel Economy: Extra Urban 43.5
Fuel Economy: Combined 33.2
Emissions Data (co2 gm/km) 202

Apologies for the late reply, I didn't check back.

I probably average in the high teen's to low 20's when it comes to fuel economy. The VX is a fun/second car and so most of the time I'm driving it is when I'm 'making progress' and enjoying the car :D
The car's tuned as well so I doubt that helps in trying to be as frugal as possible ;) :P

Insurance isn't too bad - I pay around £1300. Given that I'm 23 I think this is 'ok'. I pay about the same for my diesel Golf (due to little no-claims), and I know which I prefer driving... :D

As stated, it is correct that Opel and Vauxhall are pretty much the same, with Opel being the European brand, and Vauxhall the British. Both the Opel Speedster and the Vauxhall VX are built by Lotus on the same production line as the Elise.

AFAIK the VX isn't available in America, but the Lotus Elise is. It's heavier and slower than the VXT, but still a good car. Whether it's suited to most US roads, I don't know :)

Great ride!

i have one of these, Best winter car ever. not too much power, and with Quattro and locking differentials, it can get through places I have seen modern SUV's get stuck. Not the most powerfull car, but with the 5 cylinder they have lots of torque, and are easy to drive!

I pulled out a Ford explorer (it was helping itself out a bit) with a tow chain with my 4k.
