My "Force Quit" command often doesn't work. I can select the option from the force quit menu but more often than not does nothing and the program I ordered it to quit just sits there, irritating me. Is there another way I can quit programs that have become unresponsive, akin to "end process" in windows which works instantly and flawlessly in my experience?

Slightly frustrated new mac user...

Thanks.

It's not a Windows thing, it's a computer thing. 😉

Depending on the app, it can take several seconds to respond. If it refuses to, it's likely there's a process not releasing for a reason. You can go into Activity Monitor and end the offending process if you desire. Keep in mind that ending a process by force ("kill -9" to Unix geeks) can cause unexpected problems if something else depends on that process either directly or through child processes, same as Windows.

OK Thanks, I will check it out/ Can't seem to find the appropriate process in there for the program I want to quit but thanks for the info!
