Hard Drive issue

I have an Imac G4 800/768/80gb


Now this is where the issue lies

1. I installed the new hard drive the 80gb 7200 rpm hdd i have this hard drive as master and the dvd-rw as slave

2. I go to install tiger or leopard and the hard drive shows up but when restarted it does not come up just a blinking folder as nothing is there.

Any thoughts to this?

It's a silly question but have you formatted it?

is it formated as mac os journaled?

o yes forgot to mention that, it is formated as journaled.
