In a word, No. The chips are soldered directly onto the logic board. It's not like the imac where the 'fixed' memory is just a standard DIMM further inside the machine

yes i realize that but you gotta be able to unsolder the ram and replace the thing.

Yes it is possible, but not practical.

It's about as practical as doubling the size of a DIMM by replacing every chip and resistor on the thing and repramming the ROM on the chip to the specs of the new DIMM.

But you'd also need to do the same thing for the logic board, but wouldn't be able to drop it into a DIMM tester to test the DIMM and program the ROM.
