I was just checking my Firewall settings and noticed the FireVault tab for the first time.

Does anyone on here use it? Is it beneficial at all or just a bit of security overkill?

Isn't it nice when you've had something for a while and then notice something new?

I didn't realise my car had little mirrors in the sun visors until I gave a girl a lift. First thing she did was check her make-up 😀

FileVault is evil, do not use it.
If you ever have a problem with your computer and can't boot it, fixing the problem becomes a nightmare.
You should only use it if you have very sensitive data, so that if your computer gets stolen your data will never be accessible to them.

Because of sensitive data I am privy to for my contract job, I have FileVault enabled on my MacBook. Any super sensitive data is stored on an IronKey USB flash drive (FIPS compatible encryption with automatic deletion of data with 10 failed access attempts).
