I have several movies in iTunes, and many are parts of trilogies and series. Is there any way I can have all movies in alphabetical order with a few exceptions so series are in chronological order?

For example, the American Pie series goes in this order chronologically:

1. American Pie
2. American Pie 2
3. American Wedding
4. American Pie Presents: Band Camp
5. American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile
6. American Pie Presents: Beta House

But alphabetically, it goes:

1. American Pie
2. American Pie 2
3. American Pie Presents: Band Camp
4. American Pie Presents: Beta House
5. American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile
6. American Wedding

Is there any way to sort it in the first way with all other movies sorted alphabetically?

Thanks!

You can re-name them with a prefix to look like;

am1_american_pie
am2
am3

I have my starwars like this SW1, SW2, SW3...
and hanibal lector like; han1, han2, han3...

Would "am1_american_pie" show up on my iPod/AppleTV? I'm just looking for a solution that shows the actual movie name, and nothing else.

Yea, That's how it shows up on the ipod, frontrow, etc.

So you're saying there's no way to have it the way I want?
Is my best solution the following?:

1. American Pie 1
2. American Pie 2
3. American Pie 3: The Wedding
4. American Pie 4: Band Camp
5. American Pie 5: The Naked Mile
6. American Pie 6: Beta House

If your using a program like MetaX to tag all your movies with poster art, actors, genre etc there is also a sort field.

Keep the name of all the movies as they are are meant to be.
Example:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

In iTunes its going to put them like this
Chamber, Goblet, Order, Prisoner, Sorcerer's

In MetaX under the sort field tag each movie with Harry Potter 1, 2, 3... and the name of the movie will be displayed correctly and in the order you specified.

iTunes has its own built in sort area but it doesn't write the data to the file and if you use the AppleTV the sort field in iTunes does not work when viewing your collection.

Just open up your "get info" window on the movie and go to sorting. Type in the names you have there and it will sort based on the information in the sort field rather than the title of the movie.
