so this iMac started shutting down randomly about a month ago, now it wont start up at all. it makes a weird zapping sound around the Apple logo when I hit the power button. What could cause this? HD failure?

iMac 17 in. (emc 2055)

Bad power supply.

yo check it. part # 661-3290 is out of stock everywhere although THIS PAGE (http://www.applemacparts.co.uk/store/product_info.php?products_id=57909) says it's cool to use any of these: 661-3627 614-0333, 614-0276, 614-0293, API3PC95, 614-0329 or a DPS-180QB A
Is that true?

I'd call an Apple store to verify the compatibility. Looks like it might depend on the vintage of your G5 iMac.

yo yo yo check dis, some G5 iMacs had component failures that Apple covers under an extended repair warrantizee (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/), so you might want to dibble shizapple cause then it would be frzeeeee.
