hi, my macbook pro 15" 10.5 was doing it's first update last night, and when i pressed shutdown and install updates, it started them, then just shut off.

now when i try to start up, it goes to the apple logo with the spinning wheel thing as usual, then the grayed out screen comes up telling me i have to restart. i do NOT have my 10.5 dvd with me, and i've tried single-user (that's with the shift key or something, right?). the only thing i can get to work is booting into command line. i also know that the updates are in /library/updates. they are obviously already downloaded, so i was wondering wether it would be possible to restart the updates through commend line, and i've also tried to connect to the internet and run a:
softwareupdate -i -a
but all i get is a bunch of could not's and Error: No Internet Connection.

i don't know if my ethernet port works, and i don't know why it says airport is not available on this machine.

i've also tried the firmware restoration cd 1.7, that's not working either. help please?!

and if you could post a reply quickly, i need to type a paper tonight.

thank you!!
