I believe it was an abandoned hospital in the Chicago area that was already set for demolition. It wasn't a set.

If I'm not mistaken, that scene was filmed in London.

I guess i'm a little late to the party, but i just got back from my first viewing.

Amazing movie. It completely lived up to the hype. Ledger's performance was absolutely outstanding.

I'll be seeing this again......on DVD!

Movie ticket prices are too high these days :p

I've been gone the past month and a half and tonight was also my first viewing (the movie only had about 5 people in it not including my family).
Ledger did my favorite villain justice. :)

So, so true. The soundtrack is memorable only because it reflects the movie, rather than it being a pop song mix tape that is "appropriate" because half of them use the words Gotham, Joker or Batman. It helps the flow of the movie rather than being distracting and/or overbearing.

I love the "buzzing" sound that occurs throughout the movie, adding suspense to various scenes. I also like how Nolan went with a minimalistic approach to the soundtrack itself, with a bunch of scenes almost completely silent (the one scene that comes to mind is when Joker leans his head out the police car's window; complete silence).

Best Picture, Director, Score and of course Supporting Actor...

Heath Ledger as The Joker

I've seen it 7x (3x in Theater & 4x in IMAX). I'm lost for words, I can't believe what Christopher Nolan (& Co.) did to this Franchise, sorry but after Batman Returns, the rest was laughable!

Agreed - I also liked how some of the soundtrack was partially re-used from the first film so that things sounded familiar

Yeah, Zimmer definitely built upon the existing themes, which makes sense.

I saw it in IMAX last night. My first viewing was opening weekend on a regular screen.

I have to say, I enjoyed it more this second time. The fact that so much of it was filmed in Chicago distracted me, originally. That kept pulling me out of the movie because I kept seeing locations that I frequently see in my day to day life...so, it was difficult to accept as Gotham (and not Chicago). With the second viewing, I was able to appreciate it more. Of course, I was always impressed by the performances and the highly effective score.

Wonderful film!

I loved the fact that it was shot here, made it all the better. It was annoying when they were actually here filming though. They shot outside my office for a month or so, and it was quite a pain to deal with, especially when I worked late. I couldn't walk down this street or that, depending on what was being shot. It made getting to the train or bus interesting more than a few times.

My favorite scene of the joker though, is when he driving that police car with his head out the window. That sums up his character for me.

 So how's it possible to drive a car when your in the back seat with half of your body hanging out?

I do agree that the silence in that scene spoke volumes.

I was also wondering what scenes were shot with the 65mm IMAX cameras? Anyone have a link?
