I would just like to get an idea of how many people have had to reboot there mac's ? (as in re-install the os) i mean compared to windows which to be fair needs rebooting about once a week lol :apple:

In the last months updates, which required a reboot, were quite frequent, so I just rebooted for system, security, quicktime and firmwareupdates. Back in the days where such kind of updates weren't that frequent I rebooted my machine about every 2 months.
My xp pc which I owned 5 years ago I had to reboot every day at least once 😛

I reboot only for updates. Other than that, my iBook G4 is on all the time. Never had a problem. I've never had to use windows for any extended time so I can't make a comparison.

I only have to reboot for updates, but I turn my machine off whenever I'm not using it, which is several times throughout the day and all night long.

Saves money, saves carbon, yadda yadda.

I reboot my MacBook Pro frequently - whenever I take it with me, I shut it down then "cold boot" it when I arrive. Also, updates that require a reboot cause me to reboot.

Great xp ****'s me off so much with having to reboot it so often, to hell with it im getting an imac at the end of the month. ****ing microsoft use your money for something useful like making a decent os ya know.

Reinstalling an OS is not the same as rebooting

ok, thats just what i call it is there an actual name for it?

Yes: "Reinstalling the OS".

"Rebooting" is another way of saying "Restart".

As long as you don't actually damage your system (delete system files you need), it's not really that beneficial to reinstall the Mac OS.

Uhhh... I've never had to reinstall. Rebooting happens with updates and when I shut it down for the night.
