View Full Version : Converting MP3 files into Audiobook
Jun 23, 2008, 02:38 PM
Basically, I have imported my entire audiobook CD into my Mac as MP3 tracks.
However, I couldn't find a way of getting iTunes to recognise them as "Audiobooks" instead of being identified as "Music".
Your suggestions / tips are really appreciated.

1) Convert the tracks from MP3 to AAC
2) Download "Make Bookmarkable (http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=makebookmarkable)" from Doug's AppleScripts

If you’re on a Mac, there are two decent scripts at Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes, but Audiobook Builder is a much better way to go, especially if you have a lot of books. Even at 1985 minimum wage, it'll save you enough time to pay for itself after 3-5 books.
If you're on Windows, there's a tool there, too, but I can't speak to it personally.
More details on the options available, and a whole lot more about listening to audiobooks on an iPod, can be found at Aldo on Audiobooks (http://aldoblog.com/audiobooks/). In particular, there's a long-ish article reviewing the different tools for creating Audible-/iTunes Store-style "long" audiobooks (as opposed to one track per CD) at: How to join multiple tracks into a single audiobook file (http://aldoblog.com/2008/01/how-to-join-multiple-tracks-into-a-single-audiobook-file/).

Thanks to you both for the wonderful advice... I have now managed to get the audiobooks sorted! :D
