New Mac user itching for MacBook: to wait or not?

I'm a new convert of PC-to-Mac. I picked up rumors of possible MacBook design updates (I have my hopes on LCD screen!) and would gladly wait for them.

One small problem: I leave for college in mid-August.

So with that, how long does it take to get used to a Macbook? How probable is the new hardware update? Taking both into account, should I wait for a new update and run the risk of being hopelessly confuddled the first months of college?

I know I'm in the exact same boat, would love an alumiunum macbook and possibly an LCD display, but I can wait until the end of August to get one. If an update is not in stor until January, then I would like to have some time playing around on it before school starts, also want to take advantage of the back to school promotion. When will we know for sure if an update is coming?
