Hi!
Im a longtime windows user and recently got myself a pretty Mac.
I was trying to drag the application folder in "Places" to the dock, however when i released the mouse the entire folder literally went up in a poof of smoke!
So, i typed "applications" in spotlight and found the folder (although i couldnt figure out where it was physically located on the drive). I made a new folder called "applications" in the ? root ("Macintosh HD") and copied all the applications there. Then I deleted the other empty "Applications" folder whose location i didnt know from spotlight.

Now, my questions are:

1. What is the default location of the Applications folder?
2. How can I get the applications folder back under "Places"?
3. Did i screw something up? Do i need to make any changes?

I have not yet turned timemachine on so I cant do a restore.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
SS

1) Default location of Applications is right off the root. That is /Applications.
2) Finder->Preferences->Sidebar
3) Do your Applications run, if so you should be ok.

Thanks for your response Swiftaw.

1. When you say root do you mean "Devices\macintosh HD\Applications" ??
2. Figured out the sidebar. thanks
3. Applications are working ok.
