hey guys, i really need your help.

for some reason, my account (the only account set up on my macbook) has been changed to Standard from Administrator. i have no idea why??

ive done re-starting from the install dvd etc... where the problem lies is when i click on my account and check the box saying 'allow user to administer this computer' and log out n back in, it hasnt saved the setting.

so what do i do next?

many thanks

ive followed every step from that guide on apple's website but still cant make myself the administrator.

when logged in as 'root', it doesn't seem to save when i click on my account and make it the administrator. i go back to accounts prefs and the box is unticked again...

this is so frustrating because i cant change anything on my laptop because i cant make myself the administrator.

can anyone else help?

The setting might not be persistent due to a file system issue, so you might need to check the disk.

I'm doing this from memory, I hope it's accurate.

  • Boot from installation media
  • From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility
  • repair permissions and repair the disk
  • Then continue with the attempt to update your user from Standard to Admin per the instructions

Hoe that helps...
