iPod touch Adding songs to On-the-go

I have had my touch for 2 months now and I love it. Its my first iPod though and yesterday I was messing around with my sisters old ipod classic and found that you could roll over a song, hold the center button and add it to the on-the-go playlist. As far as I've found, the only way to add songs to the o-t-g is to go to playlists>o-t-g>edit and add songs from there. Is there any way to add songs as you view them in album view, song view etc...

The interfaces are very different. There are advantages to both as well as disadvantages. I hope that an app comes out of the store that will give iPod touch owners both options.
