Try and add an alias.

"You will be able to create a new alias on 06/27/2008."

.Mac has an alias function of some kind. I've never used it before though (only had .Mac for a week)

Unless we see OSX 10.5.4, ATV, iPhoto, etc updates on Friday probably not. All the underlying software is tagged with .Mac would have to be udpated to MobileMe.

Actually, if you remember this (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/05/30/apples-mac-service-to-be-renamed-revamped/) story, then everything is ready for MobileMe.

This happens when you try several times to create aliases, or create more than three in "one sitting."

This happened to me about a week ago and it told me "You will be able to create a new alias 6/23/07."

Nothing to see here.

Well I deleted one of my five over a week ago and it popped that message up. Why would I not be able to add another alias for 2 weeks. I had not touched the alias tab for over a year. ??? :apple:

" Well, this contradicts with their statement on bookmarks. They need to keep it until at least the 30 of June."

Web access to .Mac Bookmarks ends in July 2008 - We are not talking about .mac here - remember it will be me.com.

Exactly same thing happened to me. You have to wait. Don't know why...
It's just a coincidence your wait date happened to be 6/27...

An alias is just an alternate email address that forwards to your primary .Mac address.

Basically say your main .Mac account is waterskier2007@mac.com. You could set up an alias to point to that address. Say donkeyballs@mac.com, or whatever you want it to be.

but why would you do this. i mean you still get the emails so its not like it does a service, unless im not getting it fully

It basically gives you an alternate email address that you can give out. Something you can always remove later.

If they're smart the whole thing is backward compatible anyway, so they can 'switch on' MobileMe and all the old OS stuff will keep working (they'd have to do this - not everyone updates their OS just because apple says so, especially business customers).

Then they roll out the different updates as and when they're ready, probably staggered over a few days/weeks so that their technical support doesn't get overwhelmed when problems appear.

One probably common use, yes. ;)

"Private Browsing" mode on safari is the same way.

i saw someone posted some code leading to the speculation of MobileMe. it was from iphoto or something and it had to do with "(blank) is the new service from Apple which used to be .Mac" or something like that. i cant remember exactly, but if that is true then it should automatically interface

Down for me too, but likely nothing. It has been doing this intermittently over the past couple of weeks.

Yep, down for me as well.
Man, I really hope that once MobileMe is here, that the service doesn't go down as much as it has in the past. That's been the MAIN sucky thing about .Mac so far...

For me the key component to MobileMe is the iPhone 2.0 software. That is where it will really shine. I am already a .Mac subscriber, but with the addition of the interface with the iPhone I think it will be awesome.
