My only concern with the invisible shield is the new curved back of the iPhone 3g. I actually apply film all day as my job and as I very well know, films don't like to conform to complex curves without wrinkling. This wasn't so much of a problem with the flat back of the original iPhone.

It looks to me as though they've done a pretty good job of die-cutting the film to accomodate the curves and edges... we'll see.

There's no way I'm going to put it in a bulky case though, the only option as far as I'm concerned is a film product and I've had outstanding results from ZAGG.

i really really really really hope mine arrives before june 11th.

wow, i'm excited.

the only problem though is that their shipping takes FOREVER. i ordered expedited shipping once and instead of 2-3 days it took 2-3 weeks.

Yes it was free with the preorder to UK with 3-4 days shipping.

I am waiting for the 3G fullbodyfilm as that uses both invisible shield on the back and power support protection on the front.

Eh... Here's the thing I've never liked about their iPhone shield...

On the front it doesn't go below the button, which is kind of an eyesore. Now on the first gen this was someone easier to deal with, although BestSkinsEver's shield connected below the button. But on the 3G since there's more space between the button and the bezel it's even worse...

Hmm...I've never owned an InvisibleShield, but I have seen them on a friend's iPod.

I'm wondering...does putting an InvisibleShield on the iPhone affect the touchscreen in any way? Is it harder to do things like slide your finger across the screen? Type on the QWERTY?

Thanks...

This is excellent news as we now have every chance of our orders arriiving before our iPhones. :)

They originally said that they would not ship until mid-July and I was worried about having to really baby the iPhone for a week or two before the Invisible Shield arrived to avoid scratches.

Although I hesitated because of the delay, I placed an order anyway a couple of weeks ago. Glad I did.

Your order #EUxxxxx was received on Thu Jun 19 12:11:38 2008 and will be shipped within one week of the completion of the Apple iPhone 3G (Full Body) design. Be advised that we are unable to create the design until the launch of the device, as Apple does not provide us with a phone prior to the public distribution.

There could be some sense in that because once it's scratched, it's scratched.

If their website is correct though, you should get it in the next fortnight. :)

I'm just a bit baffled by the email received by brisweeney today sayng that they won't have an iPhone (and therefore can't design the skin) until after the 11th of July.

Absolutely, not to mention that you can be more relaxed when using it.

I recently sold my 1st generation iPhone (which had been protected by a similar skin) for more than I paid for it 7 months ago.

I currently have the BSE skin on my phone and personally I can't tell there is a cover on it until you pick it up. I like the fact it has a better grip to the phone, less likely to slip out of your hands.

Can't comment on the front as I've only applied to the back of my Touch. I don't think the front needs it as it's glass. I just have the IS on the back and use a basic slip case (the black one from an iPod 5th gen). My Touch is like the day I brought it home.

Same kinda, got the invisible shield put on the front as well. Does affect the slickness of the front, because its not as smooth and slick. The power support ones are quick sturdy plastic so that would help because that plastic is flat and smooth. I'd recommend a power support screen protector and some sort of graphical one like, www.skinizi.com for the back :D

I put an InvisibleShield on my iPhone front only. I found the surface was not nearly as friction-free as the original or as it is with some other protectors. It interfered with the experience for me. After about a week I removed it and sent it back for a refund, which they promptly and cheerfully provided. Kudos to them on that.

I ordered one for my touch, but when it arrived despite being labeled as a touch it was clearly for a normal ipod, had the click wheel part and everything. I didn't bother doing anything about it though as changed my mind after reading loads of people saying it ruined the device.
I plan to just keep my iPhone in a felt lined pouch in my pocket, which is what I do with my iPod touch. Quick and easy to get out and in, and no totally naked when in use. I do worry a little more with the iPhone, as it'll be used so much more, but the thought of covering the screen with film seems crazy to me.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate your input.

I think I'm just going to go with a "slide in" case. Something I can just keep in my pocket in order to keep it safe, yet allows me to easily remove the (naked?) iPhone in order to use it.

Sort of like the generic cloth case that came with the 5G iPods...

Any ideas?

thinking myself about the incase slider too,or the rubber incase one. i work at gigs and festivals, and as anyone who's either been to one or worked at one,for some reason, if it can break it will! phones,iPods, car keys, amps, bags anything! so i want the extra "hard" protection for my phone too.

on a side note, just ordered AGAIN from zagg, the full body shield for my macbook, got free shipping cause the coupon code i used cancelled out shipping! so heres one for the next person to use!:)

as did i, before 12pm mountain time. i also chose the speedier shipping option.

the email i received tonight does indeed have a different image -- and it seems to have full front coverage, including the bottom of the home button.

i have to ask though... what are wholesale orders? how do they differ from web orders?

The invisibleSHIELD is a must for all iPhone users. Don't hide the sexiness of your iPhone with a silicone case people! Right now I'm using my 1st gen iPhone with the IS, coupled with a magnetic belt holster. Works like a charm.

That is the reason I don't want one. Makes the screen look awful! Looks pretty bad round edges too. I'm still slightly tempted, but considering I've had my iPod touch in my jeans since launch and its not got a scratch on its front at all and only very minor back scratches, I don't really see much need. (I keep it in a felt lined custom made pouch inside the pocket)

Hey, i had a conversation with one of the the reps at ZAGG and the told me they should have all orders that were received by the 27th to the owners before launch date. Also if you did priority shipping your order was processed and shipped faster than others who didn't. If that doesnt sound familiar to you, that is because it wasn't an option during checkout. i had to go though an agent to get it. So if anyone else did that then expect your order sooner than most.

Best thing to do is to buy a Power Support Crystal Film for the screen and just use the I.S. for the rest.

It's the perfect combination.

IMO, it dosen't look THAT bad. Yea, the screen is a little bit more grainy, but I'll sacrifice that in order to keep my future 16gb white iphone in pristine condition. The little white specks and streaks are there because the owner didn't apply the skins that well.

I wish IS would sell just the back portion. I'll probably go with BestSkinsEver (BSE).

I did not like this product at all. Greatly reduced touchscreen performance and extremely difficult for most people to install. Not to mention the risk of getting the spray mounting fluid in your iPhone's speaker, home button, audio jack and other openings. Other screen protectors are much more clear and invisible like the Power Support Crystal Film Set. An invisible, tough, smooth screen cover that does not degrade screen function at all. Try this product at your own iPhone's risk!

I'd like to know this as well. There is nothing on their website about the 3G.

http://www.powersupportusa.com/products/iphone_filmset.php

I'm aware that the overall size of the iPhone has changed very slightly, but perhaps the screen is unaltered and therefore exactly the same. Anyone know?

For those that have use the PS, how resistant to scratches is it?

You may get the odd mark on the screen protector in time but the actual screen remains fully protected and unmarked. The screen protectors come in packs of two and are reasonably priced so it's not the end of the world to put a new one on after a few months.

I cannot recommend them highly enough!

I used my IS for months on iphone 2g and while off it does show a orange dimpling the screen protector is amazingly resilliant. I had a 2nd one sent to me because first had a huge crease in it and I tried with the defective one using keys to rip into it or tare it and it just didn't.

It's a fantastic product and with screen on I had no issues.

That photo seems to be custom-taken to show the IS. I have one on my ipod, and while it's visible when the screen is off (like in that photo), when the screen is on, the film is almost completely invisible.

its actually REALLY EASY. and i hate doing stuff like this! granted i only put one on a watch today it was my first experience with the invisible shield.

here's some tips, when you peel it off, try really really hard not to get fingerprints on it, they DO NOT COME OFF! remember which side is the "sticky side" DO use the spray,it lets you slide the shield around to position it right. if you mess up and get fluff or something on it, WASH IT! i ust rinsed it under warm water with a little bit of dish washing liquid and it came out perfect. still a tiny fingerprint on it, but hey!

spray the shield. pop it on and move it to the ideal place, then take a hair dryer and warm the shield in the product to dry off the spray, dont let it get too hot if your doing it on electrical items! and keep sliding it or pressing it down to get air bubbles out. then leave it! leave it for an hour or so with out touching it.....and the rest of the spray dries out and it sticks!

i know it sounds like i work for zagg from that post but its just my experience from today! obv if anyone else has any tips please share them!!!

my next installation will be on my macbook when it arrives, then my iPhone 3G!

on another note, sliding my finger accross the shield on my watch now, i cant see it making to touch screen unresponsive or sticky in any way, its as smooth as the glass on my watch!

Do they sell anything at the apple stores that are similar to protect the screen and back?

citron230
Jul 1, 2008, 08:51 PM
not that i know of. I haven't seen any clear films at the Apple Store that protect the back as well. they have the clear film that is smooth, I can't remember the brand, but comes two in a pack. This is only a screen protector I have seen though.
They do have standard type phone cases which will give you full body protection but aren't as inconspicuous as the BSE or IS.

Ferris23
Jul 1, 2008, 09:32 PM
I am going to wait for the Best Skin Ever. I'm sorry but I can't justify spending 20.00 on this stuff when I can get it at BSE for like what....6 bucks?

Anyway, on my Ipod Touch I used the BSE and liked it, however with my Iphone 3g I plan on using the crystal type films for the front. The IS and BSE do taint the image quality a bit and I really am kind of sick of that sort of grainy look? I don't know, it's just not as clear as a naked screen. The crystal screens don't have this negative effect on IQ.

I am probably still getting a silicon case, since this is going to be my phone now and used a lot more than my Ipod Touch.

citron230
Jul 1, 2008, 09:45 PM
I loved my BSE case. I would have gone that route but:
1) they are not available now and I want protection from day one
2) the lifetime guarantee was a nice touch

both of those are worth the extra money.

I wish we could see photos of comparisons of the back piece.

My concern is how each company cuts them. How far the skin extends up the bezel/cover it. I've seen photos where the skin covers only 1/2 the bezel, etc.
I also fear being an early adopter and fear they'll need a tweak or 2.

Make no mistake about it, installing any type of film on the back of this device WILL be harder than on the mostly flat back of the original. Curves and film don't work well together.

Ferris23
Jul 2, 2008, 09:05 AM
Curves aren't that hard. I installed one on my PSP which is curvy and once the material gets sticky, it stays right down. They cut it to accomodate but I don't imagine the Iphones slight curve on back being an issue.

The curve on the back of the 3g iPhone is quite a bit more than than on a PSP.

Has anyone called and talked to these people to glean anything about the 3g skin - i.e.; how is the bezel going to be handled. I'm seeing pics and see the bezel as installed, has seams. The last place I want seams (from pieces) is on the bezel. Either the back needs to wrap up to cover it, or a separate piece for it.

Anyone know exactly how this thing will be die cut?

if it is anything like the old iphone skin, the back piece will wrap up and around. there is a separate piece for the screen.

Yea but the back piece on the 1st gen doesn't wrap the bezel at the top/bottom and there's tiny separate bezel only pieces instead. At least according to their pic.

The fewer pieces the better, especially small strips, because it is the edges that are liable to pick up pocket lint, and those narrow bezel pieces are the worst potential offenders.

How I wish that Apple would make scratch-resistant products. :o

Hmmm...Going cancel my order for that. Saying you're going to start shipping the week of July 7th and then switching it to significantly later (July 25th for my July 8th order) the day the product is launched is lame.

I had ordered an Invisible Shield but since it hadn't been shipped and the shipping got moved back so long I cancelled it.

I read some more reviews and found out about BodyGuardz and decided to look them up. Their iPhone 3G full body cover lists for $24.95 and includes 2 backs and 2 screen covers. The item says it "Usually ships within 24 hours." Not only was this better than Invisible Shield but I also looked online and found someone that had listed the coupon code "utah" yesterday online. Someone from bodyguardz.com supposedly handed him a card while waiting on his iPhone 3G and told him that "utah" was good for $10 off. Sure enough this worked and I got it down to $14.95 but decided to go for the $5.30 Priority Mail flat rate shipping instead of the free shipping option. ( I live in Kentucky but "utah" still worked for me so it shouldn't be state dependent. )

This is DEFINITELY the best deal as far as shields go as BodyGuardz also provides lifetime replacements. I'll probably end up selling the extra shield set on eBay anyways. I don't know how long "utah" will last but I'd definitely check this out fast.

Also, a good review of BodyGuardz is over at ilounge.com at http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/nlu-products-debuts-bodyguardz-for-iphone-3g/ which also compares BestSkinsEver and Invisible Shield. Guess who wins? BodyGuardz.

I got an invisible shield full cover from Carphone Warehouse delivered with my phone today. I put it onto the phone before I did anything else and promptly took it off a couple of hours later: IMO it looks horrible. I didn't have any bubbles or other nasties in it, but the shield was really visible on the back of the phone as it affects the "Shininess" of the back to a pretty large degree . I'm sure other people won't mind at all, but it wasn't for me. Running naked now until I decide what to do, and being really nervous about scratching the plastic back!

Black - it was all I could get. I agree that it would probably be less apparent on the white one. It actually ended up looking very similar to the protective film that covers the iPhone when it's delivered (i.e. terrible!)

I sent an email to zagg to cancel my order and placed my order for the bodyguardz instead. Paid for a 2 day priority mail. So the price came out to be the same as zagg except I get two.

I was hoping to receive the shield before I got my phone. I guess I'll have to leave the original plastic on a little longer and put it in a pouch until I get my body shield.

I registered just to try and help you guys out. Me and my friend are trying to start a Tech review/news webpage. Definitely going to need a much better camera! So this is the best I can do for now.

The shield has been on since Friday. There are many bubbles that I missed and can't get out. Compared to the old InvisibleShields, it was a pain in the ass to get on. Usually when you put an InvisibleShield product on, you are able to maneuver it a little bit. This one had no maneuverability at all. I had to place it perfectly the first time. Also I should mention that the flash shows things you cannot see with the naked eye. I can't see any of those dust particles and the bubbles are pretty hard to see. If I put the product on better and took an extra 20 minutes to make sure all the bubbles were out, it would of came out much better.

It looks like the corners are better covered/protected than the old one?

But again - it doesn't seem to go up to the rim of the bezel. Seems to go up about 1/2-way? Why can't these companies.

I'm sure if you used more solution (one must use a ton), it would've slid around better. It's the key. So how does it look on the black though? It's hard to get a general vibe from the bright flash, etc. Nice and shiney? And am I right that the bezel is only covered about 1/2 way up?

I keep wondering if the skin would look better on white or black and which would show edge dirt more (probably white?)

Dethklok
Jul 13, 2008, 03:50 PM
Finger prints are why I love the screen protector. They are much harder to see and wipe off much easier. If my hands are dry I can wipe off a fingerprint with my finger. The surface is very smooth and I really like the feel of it. For my old iPhone I eventually peeled off the back and kept the screen on. Then for the back I used one of those plastic snap-on cases.

It seems like they were a bit off with their measurements, which is why the home button is misaligned. I had to stretch it a bit to get some more even coverage on the sides. The home button is correctly cut out. I think I might buy another and try again.

The sides are much better than the original iPhone's shield. Also I used a TON of solution. I had a small pool going on and I still couldn't get it to slide around.

Dethklok - first, thanks for posting the pics. 2nd, can you better address how far up the shield goes on the chrome bezel? That's my sticking point. Your pick seems to show about 1/2 way up? Yes? Or more? I know it shouldn't go 100% cuz then there might be a lip to catch but I was hopeing for 80-90% up.
Any fears of exposed chrome scratching? Or is it pretty good coverage there in your opinion? And did you push/stretch it tight to get the bezel covered? I know they can stretch a bit.

Was shopping today and saw them in CPW so annyed as I order mne on the 12th of JUNE and i'm still waiitng.
So I bought one and will try to cancel/re-sell my other.

Just finished applying it...oh my god.
Nightmare! I've installed ISs on my iPod, my iPhone 2g, my nano and countless camera/gadgets and had some but minor trouble.

This thing was actually quite difficult.
the cut from the original is slightly different, gone are the little dots for the back corners, replaced by neater tabs....if you can get them to line up!
I was palming them for ages, in total, front and back took me about 80 minutes.

Main issues I have are -

The bezel is no longer covered....whats up with tha? the most scratch prone section is not covered!
yes theres a flap for the bottom bezel and the back covers up about half of the sides but that's it!

The tabs - they sometimes overlap leaving thick mucky looking covering, might be me but it was impossible to get them to set.

The front - it seems too small! the ring around the home button is huge!

Not overly impressed AT all. shall see how it dries.

No, the bezel is not fully covered. It could be with alot of stretching. maybe not. The main part does not cover the chrome on the bottom at all, but they included a separate piece to do just that.

Looking at it now, I have one side of the chrome 90% covered, but the other side is only 10% covered. So no idea if I put it on wrong, or if the chrome is supposed to be unprotected.

The cheapest shipping to the UK (for Bodyguardz) is unfortunately £16 as well, which is ridiculous considering Zagg ship it for $5 for 'priority'.

That said, I'm extremely disappointed with Zagg this time around with the delays. To make it worse when I asked to cancel my order this weekend, I got an email yesterday saying they'd already shipped (despite their earlier emails and their website saying shipping won't START until 18th July). And this contradicts the fact that you can buy the things in several retails outlets in the UK already. What *exactly* is the point of pre-ordering!

At a loss what to do now as I'd like a shield at the earliest but Bodyguardz seems a ridiculous amount of money for something that should ship in a plain/small envelope!

Blueunplugged didn't have them when I ordered mine from Zagg directly. Obviously they do now, but they don't sell the back only which is what I want. Also by the time you add shipping you can get it cheaper at CPW (£14.99).

Keep in mind that picture was taken RIGHT after I installed it. Ovr a 48 hour period it smooths out. It's definitely not crystal clear, but when you're looking head on you can't really tell. Some people like it, some people don't. I find the protection is the most important. Make your decision based on the pics...worst case scenario, you can ask for your moneyback!

Wonderful. I ordered my IS July 1st and it hasn't even shipped yet, but some people who ordered their's a week later have already received them. BS.

Yep, that's why I canceled my order and got myself a BG instead. Same price but I get 2 instead of 1 and it shipped the next day.

These things really depend highly on the installation. I've done lots of them (just did my macbook pro with a best skins ever) and it gets easier. I'm also a perfectionist. I've been happy with the looks of them each and every time. I just ordered my sister and I a BSE for our white iphones. I'll post pictures post-install.

Just go slow and hold the corners down. I use this one www.getiwrap.com and love it. Have it on my touch and have two shipped today for the 3G iphones. Really nice when it is done.

The IS doesn't look as bad as I thought, I'm sure I'll enjoy my BG just as much. It should get here tomorrow. I did priority shipping and it was shipped yesterday. I'm excited, I can finally remove the cheap plastic that the phone came in. I used some tape to hold it together =D.

Those pics look nice. Minor corner bubbling, but it could be worse. They really need a better way to cover the edges that are on widest portion - I would think that's where the most damage might occur.

Usually people don't use enough liquid/solution. As long as you mop as you squeegee it out, you'll be fine. Not using enough makes it hard to position and traps more bubbles and crap under it. Also, take your time squeegeeing the liquid out, get as much as you can out and make sure you're happy with the way it looks before it even dries. If you see anything eye-catching, including huge pieces of dust or a hair, take it off and start over. As long as you wet it enough, it'll install again no problem.

Good luck.

To those who received their IS and installed it on their iphones, could you post pictures, especially the corners. That's the only thing holding me back from ordering. If the space in between the edges are too big on the corners, I'll opt for another type of case.

Got my bodyguardz yesterday and I must say I did such a horrible job on it. I should of watched the video before I started applying. I guess working underneath a ceiling fan didn't help me either because the liquid dried up so quickly. Overall the bodyguard covers the edges and the chromes completely if you can perfectly align it. Only one of my edges are perfect. There are no bubbles on it and everything lines up perfectly. My other three edges are hideous. One of them is really bad, but I don't care seeing as I have a free replacement from bodyguardz and its a lifetime warranty just send it back to get a new one =D

Im so angry, my invisible shield has not yet arrived. Its been well over 3 weeks since i ordered it. They take well over 24 hours to reply back, sometimes 7 days. This is stupid, ive tried contacting them for refund but nothing is happening.

eh same, ordered mine july 7th and still haven't received it. Emailed them about a refund on tuesday and they said that it was backordered and i should get it in a week or so. I emailed back saying that if you haven't shipped yet please cancel my order and refund the money. Got a response back with a RA number saying that the return has to be postmarked 30 days from date of purchase, which was July 7th....but i haven't even received it yet :/

Hey guys. I just picked up my two 16 gig phones. I dropped by Best Buy on the way home to look for a case.

They had the Zagg Invisible Shield for $14.99 for the 3G. When I got to the register to check out, they rang up 14.99 then there was a 4.50 discount, so they ended up costing me 10.49 ea.

Not sure what the discount was, but wanted to pass it on.

I ordered mine on the 9th, and I got my order at least a week ago!

I just applied it two nights ago, and some of the tabs (the ones that reach around the curved corners) are kind of awkward, but I also have a Griffin case on it anyway so it doesn't look too horrible.

Just installed the invisibleSHIELD on my buddy's iPhone 3G. :) My best advice for you guys for the install is to OVERSPRAY big time (like a few had already mentioned). That way you can move and get rid of air bubbles so much easier. As for the corners, press down and hold for at least a few minutes. Don't tempt yourself to let go to see if it's stuck on or not...just hold! :o

Here's my review and tutorial (http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/how-to/zagg-invisibleshield-iphone-3g-review-how-to-install-contest/) on how to install the invisibleshield. Also, I'm giving one away in a contest and I've decided to allow my fellow American friends to enter. Good luck. :D

Ordered mine in early June and received it well into the end of July. Applied it to my iPhone a few days ago... in which was one of the most frustrating 30mins of my life. Finally got it lined up properly which feels almost impossible. Once it dried it looked horrible. Kept it on for a for as long as possible but just had to take it off today. The front cover is fine but the back and side portion is a nightmare.

My recommendation is DONT get the Invisible Shield. Im not just hating on this product for the sake of it, I have the Invisible Shield on my 1st gen iPhone and its fine. But for the iPhone 3G it just doesnt work, mainly because of the curved back and they way they have combined the side and back into 1 cover.
