This guy was selling his quicksilver 933 MHz for $40 because it was acting slow and he didn't want to bother figuring out was up with it. So I figured for $40 it was worth going to check the machine out to see if I could just fix it easily to see if it was worth buying. When I get there we start up the machine and it gives the flashing OS not found icon.

He says "Oh sorry man, I've never seen that before, it was working fine, just slowly. I'll tell you what, why don't you just take it for free and see if you can fix it." I said wow man, I'd feel bad taking it and not giving you any money, why don't I buy the big Apple 17" LCD screen that goes with it that you were also planning on selling to someone." He says "you can have that too. You can also take this 17" CRT also." But I just couldn't take all this stuff for free, so I made him take $20.

When I get home I start messing around with it and it does indeed have problems that a simple OS reinstall didn't fix. The Apple hardware test passed too. But I was pretty sure it was just a disk problem. So I swapped out the hard drive for another one I had laying around. And now it seems like it's all working perfectly!

Quicksilver PoweMac 933 mhz
768 MB RAM
DVD-R drive
Airport card installed
Nvidia GeForce4 MX 64 MB video card with dual display outputs
Apple Pro keyboard
Apple Pro mouse
Apple Cinema Display 17" LCD screen
NEC 17" CRT screen
---------------------------
= free (but I paid $20 out of honor anyway)

Score!

That is one amazing deal you got there. That's the kind of deal that you can grow into a bedtime story for the grandkids one day.;)

Congratulations. The 933 MHz has some additional advantages: You can install Leopard without any hacks, and I think it is among the first models that are not limited to 128GB hard drives.

That's great!

The airport card alone is worth $60 to $100.

He's not tech un-savvy at all, he's just loaded. He's a high end New York-based club DJ. Apparently DJing is a profession that's feast or famine. Most club DJs need a real job to pay the rent, but for the extremely small number who make a name for themselves they get paid several thousand dollars a night.

That is freakin' fantastic! Good on you for giving him $20 anyway.

Just once, I'd love to stumble across a deal like that. All I have around here are clowns on Craigslist selling Rev. A 233 iMacs for $75
