I bought my MBA yesterday. I played around with it a little in a dark room to a light room. I loved the fact how the keyboard would illuminate automatically. Very cool. Well, today I installed the Firmware update that was available. Now my backlight does not work AT ALL except manually! I have to press F6 to make it illuminate in a completely dark room. WTF? After every reboot the illumination is set to it's lowest and I have to reset it again. Can someone please explain what's going on. I'm a little pissed at the moment. I am not a newbie. I know what I'm doing. Did the firmware update screw up everything? Please help. Thanks.

**UPDATE**
If I deselect "Illuminate Keyboard" in Prefs then wait a few secs and then reselect it the lights come back on (I'm in a dark room). But if I sleep it or shut down I have to redo this all over again. This is effed up! Any solutions?

have you searched all the other threads on keyboard illumination recalibration / the Lab Tick app?

I updated to 10.5.3 and lo and behold it is somehow working normal again. Sheesh!

Mine refuses to work if the battery is low... Was yours charged?

Yep, fully charged. It's weird.

I just noticed that my backlight isn't working. When I try f5/f6 the icon shows on the screen but with a "no" (slashed circle) below it. But Lab Tick does work fine. Keyboard setting "Illuminate keyboard" is checked.

May not be related but I just installed the OSX update. But I don't know for sure that is was working before. Don't use my MBA in the dark much :)

Try it with a older version and a full battery to see what could change.
