Ok, it seems that I can upgrade an 800Mhz G4 iBook with a 1GB RAM chip. Problem is, tons of websites are saying that only certain chips work in it. Can anyone point me to a guide or list of known working RAM for these? I really want to upgrade this iBook past the supposed 640MB limit!

Or should I take the risk and just order a 1GB PC2100 chip from newegg and hope for the best?

From what I've read the first gen iBook G4's could only take a 512MB upgrade, but that was because they hadn't really come out with 1GB PC2100 chips yet. I don't know if the computer has limitations, though.

Yes, I know, that is what is officially supported. But lots of people have gotten 1GB to work in 'em, and I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what brands worked and what didn't.

It was more pointing out that it can take PC2700 over PC2100.

What's the price difference between the 512MB and 1GB? If it's not too much, maybe you can take a gamble and get the 1GB

Yeah, I just went ahead and pulled the trigger on a 1GB stick of PC2700 on newegg which had a review saying it worked fine in a 867Mhz Powerbook G4. Those were supposed to be limited to 640MB of PC2100 too, so hopefully this'll work! Only $39.99.

All iBook G4s will take 1 GB RAM modules. They are DDR PC2100 SODIMMs except for the final 1.33 and 1/42 GHz models which take PC2700 -- however PC2700 modules are backwards compatible for these, and are generally sold for all models.

Your machine will take a 1 GB DDR PC2700 SODIMM. Choose a reputable seller who guarantees Mac compatibility,
