I thought this would be easy, but unfortunatly, I may be stupid. . .
I have an external firewire drive, and it is read only. I tought get info would let me check a box to read/write, but nothing. . . where can I make the external drive read/write?
Just so you know, I am already embarssed because I am sure it is painfully easy.
Thanks to the kind soul in advance. . .

open "get info" on the disk
click "ownership and permissions"
authenticate if need be (click the lock icon and type in the administrator password).
change the owner to whatever your username is... make sure the permission for that user is read/write/execute
that should do it...

I went into disk utilities and it said a NT disk(windows).

this is your problem.
NTFS is NT files system, and native to Windows NT. If you'd like to be able to read and write, you can use FAT. Check out this link. it talks about your problem and possibility to write from OS X to NTFS.
