Can I terminate my contract and get a new 2 contract right there?

My mom and I are on a family plan with unlimited SMS and were paying roughly $130 a month and our contract expires within 3 months.
When I go to get the iPhone 3G in August will I be eligible for an upgrade and if not will I be able to terminate the contract right there and sign up for a new 2 year contract right there on the spot and get the iPhone 3g for $199?
 
You will be able to get your iPhone in August. You will be renewing your contract meaning you qualify for the 199/299 pricing. Also, honestly, is canceling your contract three months before it expires worth it?
 
Well the guy at the AT&T store said that you can cancel your contract for free within 3 months of it expiring.

Will i just be able to add on the unlimited Data plan to my phone and not the other phone on the family plan?
