Hi all!
I am looking for a Mac version of the windows games "Solitaire" and "Spider Solitaire". Are there any free versions of these games for Mac OS X Leopard?
Thanks!

If you stick around here, you'll regret naming yourself that...
Google "OS X solitare freeware"

Ah thanks. I found "Solitaire XL" from www.lavacat.com . This looks like the classic "Solitaire" game.
Is a free "Spider Solitaire" existing, too?

I use "Sol" which includes spider:

Or should I say... I DON'T use it, but it's on my Mac for other people to play :)
EDIT: Actually I think I have a different app called Sol! So I can't vouch for this one, but it does have spider.

I know the best solitaire and it's a new computer only one. AND it was made by someone I know formally. Check out fairway solitaire. Just make sure you find the mac download.

The "Sol" program has something similar to "spider solitaire". But I have to pay to use it unlimited. :(
Any free alternatives?

I don't know about free, but kitty spangles is 20 bucks and has like 3 dozen top notch solitaire games.

If you want that authentic feel just play Solitaire through VMWare, Fusion or Boot Camp. :p

Also, for only about a buck, this unit is portable and plays over 1000 card games, including multiplayer, with touch-based control and large, clear card images:

How about http://worldofsolitaire.com/ Its a browser based version, but hey, solitaire is solitaire. I searched for far too long to find a mac version of spider solitaire for free. My Mother has even created a bookmark link to it on the bookmarks bar on safari so its only a case of opening safari and then one click away.
Hope that helps!

Another vote for Kitty Spangles Solitaire. It has a ton of games, and support is excellent. :)

Solitaire... really? I honestly thought that was a game only played when bored to death at work. I mean, not knocking you or anything at all. Actually, I beat Freecell at work today. Hurray! I like that one a lot.
But really... there are a lot more thrilling games! Anyone remember Chip's Challenge? Wonderful game! And my brother found this version of it for Mac a while ago, but I couldn't tell ya where to get it anymore nor do I even have it on my comp.
But hey, maybe you truly enjoy playing Solitaire. If so, that's quite alright!

In the spirit of things I thought I'd attach a screenshot I took of a solitaire game about seven years ago. Back then a few friends and I would compete to get the quickest complete time for standard 3 card solitaire and this was what I managed:

I must admit it was slightly strange seeing a screenshot of my Windows XP pre-release desktop!

Likely would get ...
A lot of the "Go Play with Yourself" and "You'll go Blind Doing That" type comments. :p

I use solitaire XL as well. It's a little buggy at times but it generally gets the job done. That game has gotten me through many a boring lecture. :)

Give Solitaire Forever a spin. I think it's the best looking, most playable solitaire game for Macs.

I liked Solitaire XL as well, but when I needed a Solitaire program that's easy on the hardware, I use MacSolitaireX (http://macsolitairex.sourceforge.net/Site/About.html)

Easy on hardware? Hahaha. Wow, I never thought Solitaire XL was hard on it and I only have a lowly PB.

A couple months ago, I searched and searched for a good, free Spider solitaire, and couldn't find anything decent. Then I came across Solavant Solitaire, which is outstanding. www.solavant.com. It costs money, but is well worth it. It's only $17 for the "student" license (and I can assure you, they don't check to see if you're a student). There are 240 different variants of solitaire. The free trial version lets you try 100 games.

Solitaire XL is very capable, and pretty damn cool. It just shows the cards floating right over your desktop (if you want) no window behind it or anything.

Have you tried Solitaire XL on a 500 MHz G3 iBook?
Yeah, didn't think so.

See http://www.solitairecentral.com for a round up of Solitaire games for several platforms. When I play, I usually play Solitaire Till Dawn X (shareware).

I was on a forum looking for a port of Spider to OS X and one person suggested:
"X11 + wine (via ports or fink?) + Windows exe?"
So I'm wondering how would I go about trying this?

Thanks Guys.
I need to find a good free version, that resembles windows version, so this is why this thread was brought back.
Has anyone found any newer versions closer to the Windows version.

Thread blast from the past!!
The closest match would be to run the windows sol.exe through VMware or Parallels. Another solution would be to use Wine or Crossover or whatever the wine version for Mac is called and run sol.exe through that. I remember doing that a few years ago and it worked very well.

Solitaire for Mac (http://www.solitaireformac.org) is a fantastic game that has so many versions available online. The game is equally suitable for the people of all age groups. It can entertain you for hours.

Solitaire Til Dawn was the best and most comprehensive in my honest opinion. Sadly it needs Rosetta but the developer's working on a new version.
The app store has loads of options, the best I've found is Solitaire 3D. http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/solitaire-3d/id417251373?mt=12
