i was wondering if you can download apple's firmware 2.0 and install it yourself or do you have to go to the store and do it?

It works just like any other Apple firmware update that has EVER come out........you hook your device up to itunes or the internet and it downloads.

I just bought an ipod touch through craigslist, where can i go to check to see what firmware i have and what's the newest firmware available? also, how do i check to see if jailbreak is installed or not? thanks

To check firmware rev:
Settings->General->About
I think if its jailbroken, you will get a weird version number, can anyone verify this?

Nope, it'll be the same version number. If you have an application on the springboard called 'Installer' then it's jailbroken.

Off topic, but your in japan too? Where?

I have an apartment in Ikebukuro, near Sunshine City, but mostly live in Hong Kong. My JP phones are unlocked for HK but when I go to Japan, I can also use my contracts there. Love the Yodobashi in Shinjuku 😀
