need more help with my stinkin mail

ok when i try to save my gmail account there is a messge that pops up saying

"Cannot connect using SSL
do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?"

first, what is SSL? second, how do i fix this problem?:confused:

1st of all do you have IMAP enabled in Gmail (on your mac/pc)
2) did you setup gmail using the giant GMAIL button and do you have version 1.1.3 or newer
3) hit advanced or something on your touch and turn off SSL
