Sucks that I won't even be here launch day :( I have to wait until July 13th to get the iPhone 3G. My friend is rubbing it in my face that he will have it before me, even though he doesn't even know the features of the damn thing..

Not being able to sleep because the iPhone 3G comes out in a week seems a bit much. if that is you, I would possibly consider some help :D I am excited, but sleep is not a problem. One week is only a week.

The passed 3 months i have canceled parties, work, sporting events, vacation time to sit on my computer and hit refresh for more Apple news.
I'll be in line at 3AM, but i'm not really excited over a phone until then.

I certainly didn't mean to be rude, at least. How old are you, OP? Sounds like a complication brought upon by a rush of endorphins leading to a low-band loss of cognation in the prefrontal...
You're lusting over a phone. Yes, Apple is the end-all, do-all, be-all of tech. I know that. Dreams of a phone are what Freud would call, "Was haben wir hier?!"
I don't have much room to talk, though. I didn't want a first-rev iPhone when it was announced because of the cost (same as the first iPod) and because newer versions would be cheaper and better (3G iPhone), but I won one anyway. Go figure.

Ok now you're being silly. :)
Just prepare to be disappointed. (The highs of anticipation are very seldom justified.)
Good that you have worked hard for something — and i hope you get a lot of good use and enjoyment out of your iPhone.
But life is so much more. :D

lol. i know its not everything in life, but im sure i will like it. i have used the first iPhone, since my friend has it, and i like it very much. i get this rush over anything really, like, new computer parts, wondering if i got a good grade on that test (i usually do :P), basically anything thats new. and i get excited once i know i can afford to get it, like when the iPhone 3G was announced, i did not care. at all. iPhone shmy-phone. but i work for/help out my parents to get what ever i want, in this case, the iPhone. My parents promised me that if i list thier merchandise on thier web site 100+ items and sell my current phone (razr2 v9), they will get me what ever i want. so yea. i sold my razr2 for $202.50. and now that i know i will get the iphone, im going nuts. lol.

14. like i said, im not just lusting over a phone. i worked hard and now i get my reward after a long period of time. and its more like dreams of me owning an iphone, not just like an iphone with a black background and i keep going through the specs of the phone. lol. its kind of like dreaming of your goals.

Hey Tallest,
Are you planning on getting the new iPhone ? I know that the new 3G iPhone wont be unlockable for a while (perhaps 2+ weeks before its unlocked) and i know how much you hate at&t.
Just curious if your planning on coming over to the dark side. :D

It depends on the price for which I can purchase it.
Cost of subsidized AT&T iPhone+first month of service+me taking data off the day after I activate+ETF after one month is still less than buying the unsubsidized* iPhone, BUT I'm going to college (IRELAND, my first semester), so I need to save my money... for my tricked-out, top-of-the-line, bleeding-edge Nehalem Mac Pro. I have ALMOST enough right now on my own, and my grandmother is going to give me enough for it on her own, anyway (great woman, her), so I don't know.
There's been talk of Apple selling at the subsidized price regardless, but that's crazy (enough to be real? We'll see.)
*Here is my take on the "no-contract" iPhone. You know, the one being sold for $599 and $699. Okay, so AT&T is selling an iPhone without a contract, but It's still locked to them. "Okay," you say, "That's fine. I'll just buy it and unlock to use with Centennial or T-Mobile. Piece of cake! It's not even a lie!" BUT. BUT. Remember that crap about there being a penalty on phones not activated within 30 days and that not making sense since we have to activate in the store? Well, that 30 days "penalty" crap applies to the unsubsidized iPhones. You will have to do something involving AT&T with those iPhones within 30 days... whereas if you cancel your contract after 30 days, you get to keep your iPhone, it's cheaper, and then you can unlock.

I think some of you people need to relax and quit taking things so seriously. We are on a darn MacRumors website. Using your own arguments, isn't there more to life than writing on message boards? This is all meant in fun and answers where people say they can't sleep are laced with sarcasm and meant to convey their excitement.
"no one over the age of 18 posts things like this.....it's all little kids."
They just reply with condescending retorts.

What about "Oh my lands!" or "trippy", "wiggy", "Vamoose!" (scram, leave), or any of the other awesome old-timey words that the rap-crazed youth* of today don't use anymore?
*Yes, I'm only just entering college. Yes, that makes me almost nineteen. No, I don't share the views of much of my generation. Obviously.

It might be a little bit immature to get so excited over a cell-phone being released, but he's not hurting anyone.
If you're not interested in such threads perhaps the thing to do is not to bother wasting time reading or answering them.

I'm obsessed with the iPhone in that I think about it constantly, but I still function normally (i.e. hang out with friends, work, exercise, etc.). I just have trouble removing the iPhone from the back of my mind... it's part of who I am.

I wouldn't say that I'm losing any sleep over it or anything like that, but I am definitely excited and filled with anticipation. I didn't get the original iPhone because it didn't have 3G and I couldn't afford it because I had just paid $400 for a new phone. So back then, it didn't even bother me ... I could care less.
But now, I can afford it, I'm upgrade eligible, it has 3G & GPS, that app store, and much more! I can't wait. But the next week won't absolutely kill me (or at least I hope it won't). It's been over a month since the keynote, even though it seems like it was just yesterday, so a week is close to nothing!

my weeks are going sooo slow. the 11th seems like an eternity. lol.
It's not really effecting the rest of my life but I am totally getting the time distortion problem. I think it started just last week, but the days seem to be crawling. So maybe the true secret to eternal life is anticipation.

I think the older you are, the easier it might be to wait for an iPhone, but, why? Last I looked there were some Franklins in the bank stalking me. I have no travel plans and lookey there the 11th is open. I think I will be showing my full geeky colors and even showing up in line a few hours early before the store opens.
I waited to get the original iPhone. All of three days. It was my techniphobe dad that put me over the edge. He assumed I got one and wanted to see it because he thought he could actually use it. This is a guy that used to answer a flip phone with the phone closed. Once I informed him I was iPhoneless he even suggested that if I see one in a store I should stop in and get him one. He would pay me back.
That was enough reason to look for one. My dad rocks. I am a lucky (41yr old) kid. Unfortunately, this was just when all the phones started selling out. I drove from location to location looking.
Then, mom got in on the action, honey, I want one too. They would call their local stores and there would be 20 in stock that just showed up. We would all head there together to find out the last ones left.
There were even lines in the AM where they would hand out iphone hold cards. Usually I would get there at 5am and just miss the cards by a few dozen people.
Finally one store who knew my antics over the 3 days of this cut me a break and when I called to ask said, well, none in stock now, but, how about you stop buy and relax at the genius bar.
I did just that. I also called my parents and they decided to head over too. They had a much longer drive.
The phones showed up from the back and I politely asked if someone could buy a phone for me so I could get 3. A nice person just there with her boyfriend bought mine with my credit card.
I told the sales people the 3 were for my parents and myself. You could see the look of doubt on their faces. Well, 10 mins later here comes my mom and dad. One apple employee thought having a pair of seniors buying iPhones were adorable. She even helped my mom pick out a case.
We went to grab CPK and bought the gang at the apple store a gift certificate as a thank you for the heads up and helping my folks with their phone accessories. I still go in and get many waves from employees who were there that day.
Yeah, its a little whacked, but, when you look back it was pretty funny and involved the two most important people to me.
So, the new phone is here and one thing I love is the GPS. I travel as part of my job and getting lost wandering a downtown city looking for dinner is almost a weekly embarrassment for me. My dad suffers from this as well.
So, for me, its all about GPS and for both of us Loopt. Although, the phone will not update your loopt location in the background yet. Not sure if I can teach my dad the idea of clicking icons continually to know his location.
I am really looking forward to the release date for the tinkering and the memories.
Oh mom? She loves the phone just as much as dad. She is sleeping over so we can jump in line together. Not sure what dads plan is yet. We just broke the news to him that its one phone a person. Maybe we will find a nice person who has no phone plans keeping someone else company in line.
So, if you are excited great! Do not let anyone or any comment get you down. Who knows what fun might happen during the experience. Enjoy the journey. You are only 14 once.
