Applescript line continuation in Xcode not working

I'm using the OPT+L (also tried the OPT+RETURN) character in Applescript Studio in Xcode (Tiger) to continue expressions across lines, and it is not working at all.

Here's an example and it's result. One image shows the ¬ character with the error and the other shows the line not continued and it builds just fine.

Any ideas?
