If I buy the Universal Dock which comes with a remote (which appears to be the same one you can buy for the Macs), will it work with a Mac as well (specifically MBP)? That way I'll get a dock and won't have to spend $20 for the remote! I posted this on the Macbook Pro forums and no one seemed to know so I figure someone here must!

They do not work together. I've had my iMac and my dock remote stuck together for weeks now, and my room is still dirty, laundry still has to be done, and I'm about 2 inches from kicking them out of my house.
However, the remote DOES serve well to manipulate my imac using deep red optical pulses when touched inappropriately.

I've been trying to figure out what to cover the IR sensor up with to stop it from picking up the MBP remote. I've even tried taping aluminum foil over the entire front of the dock and it still picks it up.

Consider looking up "Pairing an Apple Remote" to stop everyone from responding to the same remote.

My remote is paired, but it still controls the dock too.

Oh so you pair the remote with what you want to use it with?

I think by default it works with all unpaired devices, but you can pair it so it only works with one.
