Using MBP at home/dorm/office

I just had a quick question, I know that an external LCD monitor is more expensive than a laptop stand but would it be better to use a Raindesign mStand (seen below) or an external LCD monitor (either situation with an external keyboard and mouse) while at home/in a dorm/in an office. The Macbook Pro will either be a 15" or 17", I still haven't decided. Thank you!

It depends. If you want more screen space then an LCD is obviously the better choice. But if you just want a more ergonomical way to use your MBP on a desk then a stand is the better choice. (I like my iLap, also from Rain Design)
