Windows Fundamentals under Bootcamp/Vmware

hey guys,

I just found out about Windows Fundamentals.
Windows Fundamentals is a very simple version of windows xp.
The Kernel, The GUI and Internet explorer. I have this installed under bootcamp and Vmware. Since it is such a light version it is very suitable for Vmware. It runs as a charm!! Under bootcamp and Vmware of course it is very simple to install, way more easy as installing xp. The space it needs for a normal installation is only 700mb. Fundamentals is originally built for slow pc's starting from 250mhz. For me it is the best windows experience I ever had (and fastest).

I got it from a local used computer retailer for 75 euros. Which sounds reasonable I think. I think you can get for ;cough free cough; though.

In Hong Kong, at least less than a year ago, you could get just about any Windows or Mac authenticate software (yeah right) for about $5-$10 a pop.

I wish that I had some historical data on sites that I reference.

It seems, that the OEM versions of WinXP Pro are going up in price. That would definitely help adoption of Vista.

i got a copy a while back, but never used it. the full title is windows fundamentals for legacy PCs, and it a cut back version of xp that will run in as little as 64mb or ram.

I have WinFLP compliments of our Campus License Agreement with Microsoft. I like running it in a VM because it is very minimalistic and already has all the things striped out that I don't need. It's basically XP minus all the crap, kinda like the way it should have been.

I don't monitor the exact boot time in windows but i did see some improvement. :cool:

Under Vmware the speed is much faster as under bootcamp. It was created for legacy pc starting from 64mb ram (thanks fuziwuzi).

The experience is getting better (this is my personal opinion), I never use apps
like calculator or pinball. Apps like photoshop are running natively, so are games. I actually get a higher FPS. (not a dramatical improvement it is only 2,5 fps higher). though, after the installation I tweaked the GUI a bit (standard option btw) to look exactly like windows xp.

I didn't install windows media player 11 yet, since I use VLC Player and Itunes mostly.

Windows FLP is exactly what I needed, it still sucks because it is windows but this is an major improvement.
