ive downloaded it and each time i reboot it freezes on me. is there a way to delete the downloaded file and re download and install it?

Are you using software update to install 10.5.4? if so, have you tried to download and install the combo update from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1054comboupdate.html

Combo update is the way to go.
Some say it's a good idea that you repair/verify permissions first before doing an OS update. I have always followed that recommendation and have never had a problem...that said, I think I forgot to before i updated to 10.5.4 🙄
