iPod FAT32 iPod in Panther problem

My iPod Nano,1st Gen, won't show on my PowerMac's desktop, nor in iTunes, nor in Disk Utility..
it's been working great and as I wanted to sync it with my Mac I first thought I could just format it using the PowerMac, didn't work, so i formatted it on a PC..
iTunes 7.6.2 and 10.3.9 on my PowerMac, getting Leopard soon, what should I do?
