Transmitting Signals

I was wondering if I can use the iPhone to transmit signals (e.g. a TV remote). Please tell me if it's possible and how it can be done?

The iPhone can transmit all sorts of signals - wifi, bluetooth, cell phone.... but the specific functionality you are alluding to (tv remote) would require an Infrared emitter, which it does not have.
