I see there is already a thread going for people planning to head to the NYC Apple stores, but is there anyone else like me who thinks maybe they can dodge the crowd by going to a Manhattan AT&T store?

I'll be at the one on 96th and Broadway an hour or two early. I'm not sure if I should expect a huge line or to be the only idiot outside.

what time are you planning to show up?

I guess it will depend on whether I see people showing up the night before, but right now I'm thinking about 6 a.m. should be decent. Its not so hard to sit in line for about 2 hours and read a book/screw around on a laptop.

...
Its a shame though, waiting in line like that would be the perfect time to have an iphone to kill the time.

I am going around 6 AM to the ATT store on 34th between 7th and 8th ave. I think that is giving us plenty of time. I don't think the lines will be that long but who knows? just my opinion.

Well my girlfriend usually works out at the gym right by the 95th and Bway AT&T store at 6am so I just told her I would wake up and head over there with her in the morning. I'll probably bring my laptop so if there is any free wireless I can hop on then I'll post something here about what i find when I get out there...

I think there is a reasonable chance that I will show up and either be alone or in an embarrassingly small line. Seems like most people are going to the apple stores.

I'm about to go to bed so that I can go to the AT&T store on 51st and Park. I'm going to be there around 5:15 or so. I'm thinking I'm going to be first online.
Whatever. Should be worth it.

they just handed out numbers here at the 78th & b'way store, I'm #30 of 40 people here. It's smaller than 95th street store, but should be pretty quick I'm hoping.

ATT store on the corner of Water/Wall st.

Was maybegoing to stand on line, but decided not to.

I counted at least 60-75 people. This is a small store, so I can't imagine they'd have alot.

If this scene is repeating at every apple/att store in the country, maybe we underestimated demand, just a teeny bit.

I just passed this store at around 9:15am. There's probably about 100 people on line that I could see. There's scaffolding blocking the sidewalk that twists and turns, so I couldn't see what was behind that. It looked like they were taking about 8 or 10 people at a time.

I'll pass by again at lunch. Looks like the demand is stronger than I expected, or the 15 minute activation is really going to take a toll on first day sales.

well i was the next in line to go inside the store, and the manager came out with an inventory update: only 11 16 gig Whites and 37 8 gig Blacks were left - no 16 gig Blacks, which is the only one i came there for! ARGGGHHHH!!!

3 hours in line for nothing... yippee!! thanks AT&T for always improving the customer experience!

i will likely just head over to The Cube a bit later and pick one up without hassle.

man, this sucked.

same thing happened to me at the store on 23rd and Broadway. Absolutely ridiculous. I hope the ATT stores have ample stock

the ATT store on 43 and Lex sold out around 10am and wont have more till tomorrow at 8am. There were a lot of really pissed off people in line. I waited 3 hours and was about 20 people away from a phone.

I'm thinking of swinging past the cube tonight and seeing whats what

43rd and lex got a new shipment in before noon. The line is pretty long already and they are activating one at a time, so it moving at about 5 to 7 min per person. 46th & Madison said they were sold out and weren't getting their next shipment until tonight, but they were first come first serve on a list.

after I struck out at the ATT store I went straight to the 5th ave apple store. Got in line at about 7:45 am and was number 500+

I got into the apple store in about an hour and a half (the line moved FAST) but once I was in there ATT and apples servers started going down so it probably took another hour and a half to get out of there with my new, fully activated, 16gb black.

The experience at the ATT store was definitely much MUCH worse than outside of the Apple store. The ATT store waited until the last minute to tell us that we were out of luck, Apple let me know I would be ok within 10 minutes of getting in line. Apple was handing out water, people were handing out food (apples) and other free things... I've learned my lesson, next time I stand in line for some new ridiculous toy that I probably don't really need, I'm going to the biggest main store. I waited at the Times square toys r us for a wii last year... now I realize I should have gone to the nintendo store.

Good luck all

I've always found going to a retailer rather than the phone company store to buy a phone was faster

I was waiting at a Brooklyn ATT store. I agree, waiting at the Apple Store probably would of been better. I got to my store around 7:20am and I was around number 80. They did not offer us any water or anything. When they had 25 phones left they came out and told us. I managed to pick up the 7th to last phone. The rest had to order the phone. They could continue waiting on the line and ordering one. Shipping would be $20-$40 and it would be sent to their house or the store. The reason they have to pay shipping is because their order is separate from their daily stock.

Any luck with new deliveries to any AT&T stores today?
