What does the "DS_Store" file actuly do?

i heard it like stores information of where the files are located in the window...you know what i mean...like the props of the window/folder.
 
it stores the information related to how the Finder shows the items in that directory/folder. icon/list/column view, previews, grids, arrangements, etc...
