You hand back the phone.
ETF is for cancelling AFTER 30 days.

You can't cancel with the $175 until after 30 days. If you do it the next day it's basically the same as returning the iPhone for a full refund.

Steve Jobs visits your house with his 'iThugs' and... well you know the rest....

I know what the ETF is, I just saw a rumor around on the net that says that they will charge it anyway if u don't return the phone... Just wondering if I did that, what I would actually be paying...

I'd imagine that canceling before the 31st day and NOT RETURNING the iPhone will result in your CC* getting a charge of $300 to $400 for the phone + usage charges for the time you had the phone.
Cancel on Day 31 and you pay only $175 and 1 months service.
*didn't use a CC to buy the iPhone, no problem they will send a bill, then if not paid in 90 days they send you off to a debt collector.

Nobody really knows what price the ETF will be. It could possibly be higher than $175.00.

Pay $200 for the iphone, then pay $175 for the ETF on day 31.
Take it to T-Mobile and sign up!

thats if you can get it unlocked. Remember it will be some time before any unlock software becomes widely available.

..and since :apple: claims it will NOT work on T-Mo`s 3g network why bother?

Hack heads will make it a priority. Trust me, it will be unlocked and it will work.

The reason why I want to use it on T-Mobile is because of the GPS and improved audio.
Also, for people saying to wait until Day 31.... You would have to pay for a FULL month of service also!

It will never work on T-Mobile's 3G because it doesn't use the same hardware, a hack won't change that but EDGE will still work.

yes you will pay a full months service. You cant get the contract free iphone on the cheap. It will cost you at least $500 no matter what you do.

won't work on TMo's 3g. The phone does not have a chip in it capable of accessing the TMo 3g upload frequency. You can hack it from here to next Tuesday, won't make it able to access that frequency, and when one part of the upload/download system can't access, both don't work, so you'll be hanging out on EDGE forever.

I have yet to see a single review of the improved audio from the hands-on reports, on iPhone 3G, although Steve Jobs made that claim at his keynote.

I have read people saying it's clearer than before.

what about o2 in the uk?
if you buy one on contract, wait 30 days and then cancel, what does it cost? would you have to pay for all the months you have canceled for or just a set fee?
