Ok. I have the answer but not the coding skills.

Can someone please write an add-on that watches mouse events in all applications. Just like happens in the dock, when it detects a click-and-hold with *no* movement (for more than a definable time), it triggers the context-menu.

It would have to be smart enough though to know that the mouse isn't on a click-and-hold button (eg the scrollbar arrows).

i'm sure some clever programmer could code that up before most of us are in bed tonight!

thanks

You could just control-click and solve your problems without any coding that hasn't yet been done.

I guess you could always spend a small amount of money on a mouse with more buttons that you can program.

Try SideTrack
http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/sidetrack/index.html

It lets you emulate right-clicking with your trackpad.

I can already do this with my Kensington Studio mouse. It has an extra button you can program to do all sorts of things.
